I never had problems with loads or weigh stations traveling thru Ohio,it's the speeding ticket I got and wasn't even speeding.I told the officer off and told him to recalibrate his speeding detector.Told him I'm not signing anything,if you don't I'll have to take your license he said.
I hold the record...

When I was with Swift we HAD to turn in a legal scale ticket with our paperwork IF we were going to drop the trailer at a terminal for another driver to pick up and take to the receiver. I picked up a load in south eastern Arkansas to drop at our terminal in Memphis.
The CLOSEST scale from the shipper was southeast in Mississippi, adding 100 miles to our route. Instead I stayed on our route and eventually found a scale on I-40, over 100 miles from the shipper.
That load created problems for scaling it legal, with front axle weight ultimately being the issue. I was driving a KW T680, with a heavy front axle. Finally got dispatch to acknowledge the issue, and let the planners know they had to put a Freightliner on the delivery end.
Point is many shippers that routinely ship heavy don't have scales on site, often only give you gross weight, and you are MILES from the nearest CAT scale.
Improvise, adapt, overcome.
To which I add work through the problem with decision makers for the best outcome for everyone. -
And some will intentionally load more because why not ship more at the same price.I like Budweiser they won't let you leave until you scale legal.
On a side note I lately had nearest cat scale 40 miles from shipper and had to come back (next day as I loaded late) to shipper after scaling.Didn't look right in the first place.Turned out the loader was new.Marble dust from GA.Anyway,I made sure my 1099 EE company paid me for those 80 extra miles and they did.Last edited: Sep 25, 2016
Lepton1 Thanks this. -
The "rookie" manned up and got it done. That's all that matters, and is a lot more than can be said for some so-called "professionals" that I've met.
Well done, @TakinItEasy.

Yeah if he slid it 10 holes at first try he would be most likely good to go.But ,oh well, happened to me couple of times that I slid wrong direction.free spirited1 Thanks this.

In your case it couldn't be helped but some delibrately wait because they're too lazy to scale load. Also if you dont, look for any truckstop with a scale not just the main chains and never trust onsite scale.I was 5000 over on the rear axle and Illinois was the first scale I crossed that was open. But because this dot was nice or just felt sorry for me and I showed him the scale ticket from the place I picked up load he let me get legal and didn't fine me .Last edited: Sep 25, 2016
