Huh? Since when does detention time have an upper limit? Never heard of such a thing. Guess I've been lucky?

When you forget to spell out the terms beforehand on any given broker load there are all sorts of crazy things the brokers will claim. "Industry standard is 3 hours free", "cap on detention of $250 (TQL)", "industry standard TONU $150", etc, etc, etc. All nonsense of course. In his case it was a company policy of screw the driver let them sit and wait for nothing.

My company stops paying detention after a 10 hour delay. When I am delayed for days I just watch all of my bluray movies, post on message boards, cook food, take some sleeping pills to knock me out for 15 hours, vacuum my truck floor, clean windows inside and out, etc. By the time they get me done I am refreshed and ready to run.

I love it when the forklift rolls into my trailer once every 20 minutes. After the first hour, "only 20 more pallets..." then they go to lunch. Plus the receivers appointment time was set like you were gonna be loaded within 2 hours. Uhhh what you people never booked this run before. Sometimes you can kinda tell how long loading/unloading might take by how long it is before detention kicks in, if at all.

Produce is the exception to the Van or Reefer= bad freight rule. Vented vans in particular can haul melons in the spring and bulk potatoes in the fall/winter (with a heater). Decent money if you can stand it.
