The clutch isn't used in semis to shift.
The only time clutch is used is when stopped.
And the rpm match is different between a 10 and a 13/18. Some 10s don't even have the same shift pattern as other 10s.
Flipping a switch. Some use the switch with the same gear. Others run through the gears then flip the switch and run through the gears again.
There's also the throttle that plays in shifting. It can prevent the shift coming out of gear if not released properly.
To say it's the same as a car is totally wrong. It's not even close.
It can take days to master a semi.
Not hours.
I need advice about removing my automatic restriction

The same? Not at all the same, other than there's a clutch. You don't double clutch or float gears in a 4 wheeler. And in texas at least, the examiner doesn't like to see gear floating.

I had to relearn stick after a 15 yr hiatus. It was like I never did it b4.

Floating gears I think disqualifies you immediately.ncmickey Thanks this.

I floated gears when I took my test in MD and the examiners were ok with it, though that was 20 years ago. The driver that trained me only knew how to float as that was how he was trained in the mid-west when he joined a crop harvesting outfit.
I am guessing things have changed since now you are required to go to an accredited school.
I did a road test for UPS a couple of years ago and the hiring guy said I was required to double clutch, but once I was on my own they were ok with floating gears. It had been a few years since I had driven a manual so I was a little rusty anyway, but I managed to pass the road test despite never double clutching in my whole career. The tester said that the last two applicants couldn't even get back to the yard and he had to take over. -
Hahahahaha....you really got me going there......I ALMOST thought you were SERIOUS!!!!
Oh, man, you ARE serious! WOW!!!!
Um....NO. Got to a trucking school, tell them you need to sign up for a class to remove your transmission restriction. U dunno, maybe it'll cost less than $1000??? -
i asked the one who did my test 24 years ago, she said as long as i didn’t grind any.
I floated mine, passed.wore out and BillyBobFrank Thank this. -
Umm....not really true on either; my 1962 Ford F100 had a non-syncro 1st gear, as did nearly every car before the mid 1950's. I also had an old Dodge where the 1st gear synchro was so worn, I also had to double-clutch it. And, as far as floating gears, I did so on my 1978 Honda Civic, my 1972 VW Beetle, my 1978 Volvo 245, my 1989 Dodge Dakota, and my 1986 Dodge Omni GLH Turbo......

give this guy the ole 5x4 make him a real truck driver
JolliRoger and buzzarddriver Thank this. -
I actually drove a 6x4 Spicer; it's even a bit less intuitive; NEITHER shifter uses a classic "H" pattern!
