10 yrs. work history is for CDL drivers looking for another job.
3 yr. work history is required for new CDL drivers.
Some companies want more than is required by law.

I dont he's been out of high school very long, let alone a 10 year work history.

Then those periods are easy to explain. He was in school. It’s a dot thing. They just care that you can account for why you were not working. I have multiple gaps in my ten year. Some as long as a year from when I’ve been traveling or just didn’t feel like working.

You can get your CDL and start working for a box truck company. Do that for a year and companies with tractors and trailers will hire you. I also started young and that's how you do it. There is good school in Lacey and it's not too expensive.

The 10 year work history is for your past 10 years in DOT regulated transportation industry. If this is your first job as a DOT regulated worker you need UP TO 3 years or high school graduation. Companies can set higher requirements for work history.

Half of trucking companies offer Tuition Reimbursement programs that pay you an additional amount above the pay you earn. EVERY CDL school will find someone to loan you money if you meet the CDL school requirements. For example, good CDL schools will not allow you to enroll if you have something obviously that will prevent you from getting hired like recent felonies, fail the drug test, cannot pass a DOT medical exam. Shady schools will be happy to admit you even knowing you will never get hired even by outlaw companies, just so they can charge you for CDL school.

CRST, Swift/Knight, CR England, Werner are just the companies that pay the most money to get listed high on Google search results. They are not the only trucking companies that hire people like you. Do internet searches for trucking companies in your town or area and investigate them. Those companies don't advertise all over the internet so you <gasp> might have to call them or visit their office to find info.

My advice is find the company you want to work for before looking into getting your CDL. Some companies have their own school. Some companies only hire from certain schools. You don't want to pay for a school that CANNOT get you hired at the company you want to work for. Don't do any of the above if you cannot pass a drug test, any drug test. You will be drug tested before you get a job and randomly after you get a job. Some companies test your urine which can show positive if you've used some drugs in the last 30 days. Some companies test your hair which can detect drug use in the last 90-180 days. NO Explanation about drug use will override failing a drug test so be clean before you start CDL school. It doesn't matter if pot is legal in your state or not. This is not an invitation to explain your views on drug use, if you have one. It's not an assumption you have ever used drugs. It's the reality we are all measured by.

I don't if theres a old dominion there but I remember they used have a dock to driver program if I recall, as for swift I thought they took anyone through there school program I understand they wouldn't during the virus a lot places down for it.

Personally I would work at dock if possible or something save money go get good education for CDL instead what any these companies could offer you. Some the good companies will hire you straight out of CDL schools.

Wilson is not somewhere you would want to go anyway. I just came home from there. Anywhere you go, you want to learn the pre trip first or you will be sent home. They expect you to know a lot previous to arriving.
