Yes.... and the point I as trying to get across. What you do with your sheep while drinking, is your business. Bring it to a t/s and it becomes my business in a way because we share a common place.
I went over my 11 last night by 8 minutes.

OMG! You better go hide under the bed, they're coming for you.
Just kidding. This goes under the stuff happens category. If you get popped for it, go buy lottery tickets, your number has surfaced at last. -

Dang just moving around in a parking lot went to drive line? That's kinda crappy. I can move I think 2.5 miles as long as I stay under 15 mph. It's not a big deal, it really isnt. But just to cover your backside, I would say always flag in the comments what was going on. Try to be detailed, for your safety depth and dot. It's kind of a good idea to pre plan your stop at the end of the shift. This really just takes some time to learn. If your going to stop at 2 pm whatever roll on, as long as your on a high traffic lane with truck stops. But if you know your stopping at anytime after 8 you better know where your gonna shut down. It's easier said than done some times so at 2 hours left on log either 11 or 14 start looking at truck stop locations and look at how far the next rest stop is, alot of rest stops will say one mile to rest, next rest 98 mile or something like that, simple time speed distance. At one hour one log, that's code red in my book, I stop at first place I come to. Truck stops are slim pickings at late night, rest areas are better at night. Never run to five minutes left on log, to much stress man. Google Earth satellite view. How far, how many spaces, so on and so on. But after awhile your just going to know where crap is, and where to stop and where not to. Bottom line is you have to manage your location with your hos. If your gonna run your hours out but end up in Baltimore at 10 pm, well... there will be times you just have to shut down way early simply to be able to park. You'll get it, whew long winded today

The parking situation has to factor in. If you're up against a hard deadline but still have a 10 hour break to fit in somewhere, it's usually better to quit early then start early rather than drive until all the truck stops are slammed and have a parking fiasco on your hands. With paper you can wing it a little but it's still much easier just to stop early and beat the solar powered trucks to the spots.
Md420 Thanks this. -
I make it a rule to start looking for a place to park an hour before my 11 is up
Maurice_1221 and Roberts450 Thank this. -
I drive mostly at night. By the time I'm ready to park, a lot of drivers are leaving the truck stops. I'm also that guy that someone rolling in around 9:00 or 10:00 at night loves to see, because I'm doing my pre-trip and getting ready to roll. I get a lot of "you getting ready to leave driver?". lol

8 minutes over in a truck stop parking lot,... hmmm
I think you can keep your cdl driver
.... However any driver that has an accident that has been found to be in violation of hos rules will no longer be a truck driver !!!
This is NOT a joke, doesn't matter if you were at fault or not, your driving career is FINISHED!
.... My company tries to pushes rookie drivers over their 14 , some of these guys will run 15,16,17 hour days in the city that is
..... I just shake my head and try to remind them
It doesn't matter if you were the best driver in the world all it takes is someone else running a red light or running into your ICC or ANYTHING and you are done with truck driving jobs FOR the rest of your life , get someone killed and you do two yrs behind bars
.... You should see their face when I tell them this
.... Violation in a parking lot? Not too bad driver, it has been much worse for some drivers, trust me
