Only "dumb" question is when it cant be asked. A smarter person will always ask questions.

I have a kenworth T-680 2018 the auto start works by holding down the auto start button for 3 seconds. The battery’s are already full charged after driving during the day, but as you are using the A/C are the heater in the bunker, the battery’s at a point becomes to low and then the auto start will start the engine to run until the battery’s are full at a full charge. And then the engine will shut off.

mine was temp controlled like central ac but it never correctly controlled temp because it has settings that are locked and controlled by shop. so i learned a trick freezing one day. to warm the truck and prevent engine shut down instead of selecting 'heat' select 'ac'. then set temperature as cold as you can BUT turn the dial (the one that goes from red to blue like car ac?) turn that to all the way red or HOT) now its blowing hot air, but it wont shut off engine until it reaches the cold setting you selected on the thermostat. you will idle all night like that. reverse the process for AC.

    Doesn't everyone know?

Trucks get better each year with the newest technology that is designed to take control away from the driver in favor of a computer.
That it doesn't usually work as advertised is just a side effect.

I wonder if this smart idle could be added to a truck that had it as an option and what that'd cost

I used to have smart idle start the truck. The peoplenet would automatically go to “on duty driving”. Then after minutes. To on duty.
Volvo has a good system. No APU. Just idle for ac. Good bunk heater and inverter. I’d you run down the batteries with inverter. It has a very loud alarm. So you can get up and start the engine. Wonderous high tech.

Oh, that was you? My apologies, I thought you were a Kentuckian, but it was the truck next to you. The cold interfered with my radar.

Except for the dead driver parked to the right, died from APU fumes.

How does the start up and shut down of the motor effect your sleep?...I would probably be up and down all night...Or is it something that you eventually get used too?....I think it would drive me nuts.
