There are other places around the USA where gunfire etc are very common. St Louis is easy relatively speaking. East st louis in particular at night... no way.

I once got lost in patterson NJ. Found a small private Bar showed up in the doorframe discovered about 30 hostile sets of eyes looking me over, and then looking over the 18 wheeler at the curb. Largest man came to me and growled I need to turn my white ### around get in that rig and get gone. He did provide directions as a gift for a 50 bill (Drinks on the house) The implied threat to my life was real. The directions were spot on.

I was raised in a tavern. That one was something else.

Absolutely true! Atleast on MY experience running Hwy. 30 through Chicago Heights.
Was the only guy (green horn at the time) on the road...cop stops me and asks what I was doing....said "just passing through, heading to Indiana". He told me to keep the door shut, and don't stop for anything including lights. He may have ended the sentence with "moron" or "idiot".

 

Certain lights I did not stop at in NYC area just blew through at night regardless of color. Several trainers are responsible for that.

The most consistent city in the entire country for bad behavior has to be Philly. If something was going to go down it would be there. It's not so much a threat on the life but blatant in your face in daylight crimes that was so annoying.
