Exactly what Harry said. The trainers will try their best to get you ready by giving you pointers, help when needed, and answer any questions you may have. Many trainers will say for you to call them if you have any questions, but most of the problems you run into you can figure out yourself if you are able to keep your eyes moving and brain thinking.
You will learn how to run the truck your way, the best way that makes you comfortable and keeps you running safely.
When I get my load assignment here is kind of what I do...
Its been pretty failsafe so far *knocks on wood*. Not saying I haven't made a wrong turn here and there, but those have been at night usually and since I used google maps I kind of knew my way around.
- Write down information in booklet
- Enter address into GPS
- If a good distance is traveled, I usually take a look at my atlas too
- Enter address into phone via google maps and see if the USA directions lead me the correct way, also see exactly which entrance I need and where the building is located.
- Compare USA directions and GPS directions.
- Call company if not 100% sure on route to take
- Write down the way I am going to go on my windshield with dry erase marker
- Head to the Shipper
- Once at shipper and in dock door or hooked to my new trailer, get directions to Consignee and repeat steps 2-5.
