    There’s that too.

Funny how construction companies and engineers leave the logistics of product to site, as an afterthought.

Im guessing they have to bid the job out too.

    @OLDSKOOLERnWV lives there.

What are the options on getting the beams to that bridge? Is that the only route?

In the end it really doesn’t much matter. Every state has the disclaimer stating if #### goes sideways it’s the carriers fault.

A big issue is the bridge contractor bears no financial responsibility in this scenario - the transportation company assumes the full risk. So there is no incentive to do the job correctly on the part on the contractor.

It is incumbent on the driver to stop before being totally F’d - that is the experience and judgement to correctly do the job.

then for the low cost guys - they usually have limited financial resources- so a major screw up doesn’t actually cost them much as they have nothing usually.

I know my customer does site surveys for a lot but not all of the delivery sites.

Testing step extendable offtrack for hairpin turn

And the drone test I did to get the measurements.

It was Telluride, CO - and there were very limited options available if the load got to that point and it wasn’t going to work.

I didn’t want to be the guy on the local news blocking access to the airport.

Thats why responsible drivers check out anything that looks iffy on their own rather than just rolling

Hey Blair, hope all is well with you and yours..

I just went through that curve 25 minutes ago.

There’s route 34 off of route 60 that brings you over to route 3 where these beams were headed. But I couldn’t get a permit to cross route 34 last year because of weight restriction on a bridge, I had a 210 Kobelco on at that time.

The route they took was about the only way to go, but…. many laugh at WV since we don’t have an elevation of 9000 like Colorado as an example. Then they get here and find there are some tight spots which require more specialized equipment other than a stretch trailer.

The red dot and the address is where the beams were going to the bridge project. I delivered an excavator here for my customer who owns a demolition company, he demoed the old bridge…. IMG_7154.jpeg IMG_7159.png IMG_7157.jpeg

I get what you are saying. And agree. But sometimes no matter what trip planning you do you find yourself in some ####ty situations. At that point skill and experience makes all the difference. Unfortunately skill and experience come at a premium. And all too often people don’t want to pay that premium.

even though it’s cheaper in the end.

And I repeat, this answers that question:
This includes the driver, as has been pointed out, that was too stupid to stop when things didn't look right going into the situation.
Especially since this didn't happen just once, on that day, but as OLDSKOOLERnWV it was over successive days and happened more than once. Others have expanded on the possible technical and technique reasons....but I like my more succinct explanation. :)
