It looks like the pumpkins are coming early this year. Lots of freight in South-Southwestern Indiana for this week. I doubt rates will be as good as last week, but they still should be substantially better than sufficient. Still comfortably north of 3.00/mile to most places that aren't WI/MI/IL (all of which are also 3.00/mile+ markets).

Unbelievably rates seem to be higher than last week today. I honestly have no idea what is going on. Does anyone know what is pushing the freight market like this besides just Houston?

For what it's worth from the seat of my pants best guess here. It's tight almost everywhere. Lots of demand for trucks has been sucked up by Texas. I've been seeing a big push of lots of loads going down to Florida from all the areas I run in (southeast & midwest) for several weeks now even before the storms. That's normal though. No-one really wants to go there this time of year. Saw it again today only with occasionally higher than the typical rate. Evacuations have been ordered in Florida. I have family close to Pensacola Beach who are leaving there as a precaution that tell me the store shelves are bare and there's a run on gas.

I don't think rates are going to come down any time soon. I had a broker trying to get me to run a load of water down there today for ridiculously cheap. He said the storm wasn't going to hit until Friday or Saturday and I was crazy. .......so that's their story line..... riiiiiight.. Truth is the shelves are empty down in Florida and they needs trucks going there now. Cleanup is going to suck up massive amounts of resources. The time for holiday freight to start moving into distribution centers is upon us and the holidays are just around the corner, ready or not mandatory EOBR's are here..

Sounds about right. I REALLY need this storm to be no big deal or it's going to put a serious hurt on my September/October and make me speed up my transition from produce to construction materials.

Yeah I'm totally paying 4.37 a mile today to the southeast. Not even deep into the Southeast... This is Atlanta. This is nuts.
