Indian River used to give local drivers minimum wage tell they hit the 60 doller mark. What does that tell ya to even have something set up like that!

Hey fellas. I have a buddy of mines who is looking to run NE regional for IRT. Tried to tell him to come over to Van Wyk with me but he is sticking with tank work. Any pros to being a IRT driver? (I e, equipment, miles, etc)

You'll get a brand new truck to sit around in when you're not wasting your 14 away at dairies because you're on elogs, and when you're waiting for that next short load/waste of time to come across the Qualcomm, which doesn't occur until after sitting at least a day after delivering your previous load. If you're single, childless, and can count all your bills on one hand, this is an excellent place to work.

What is it with the Florida tanker company's? I just started at a small (24 truck) regional food grade company. They pay detention after 2 hours at $18 per hour, miles paid by the hub at .41 cpm loaded and empty, 6 paid holidays per year, and any load that is less than 100 miles is paid hourly from the time you leave the yard untill you return.

I'm not throwing this out there to bash anyone from IRT, Oakley, or Bynum. I'm throwing it out there to illustrate that there are food grade tanker company's out there that know how to treat their drivers.

Then again I don't deal with milk or cream and I pump off about half my loads. Maybe that's the difference.

occasionally you do pump with Oakley

the fact IRT doesn't have pumps is why I had to stop doing a load that I did when I first started, they took out their pump so they dropped IRT.

Thanks again for your help. I showed my buddy this thread and he is still going through with orientation. From outside looking in, I always thought that IRT was a good outfit but it sounds like they are just like any other trucking company. Have a Merry Christmas everyone.

Food grade tankers ruined me for other types of freight. Big reason why I'm hesitant to jump ship.
