I cook daily in my truck, but I use a small Air fryer. It runs about 30-45 mins to fully cook what I prepare and the only time I have had issues (inverter would constantly beep when cooking) was when the batteries about 2 years old and the truck would actually need to be jumped if parked for more than 2 days even with the fridge turned off.
I wrote it up and the shop replaced the batteries. Things have been fine ever since. I put the truck on high idle while cooking. Don't know if that helps, but it can't hurt.

I hope IRT drivers never sit with the detention being cut . Now they are in the same pay grade as bynum and flow trans, if the miles are the same at each company. The food grade tanker industry is getting beat up hard.

Country Boy Trucker on YouTube was talking about the pay structure change. If you have less than 6 months with IRT you start at .53 cents a mile. Doesn't matter if you have 1 year of trucking or 20 years of trucking..... you start at the bottom. That's not a way to attract talent

That's not what that means at all. Here's a picture of the official pay scale from the email I received.
If you have less than 6 months experience you start at .53 . Less than a year more than 6 months is .57 . If you have 1-2 years you get .60 . The confusing part is below that. It states 3-9 years gets .61 and 10+ years gets .62 but it does not say "New Hire". What that means is you get .61 after working for Indian River for 3 years and .62 after working at Indian River for 10 years.RockinChair and JrzyDave Thank this. -
That makes way more sense. He thinks it's time in service with IRTCobrawastaken Thanks this. -
I just want to clarify. The mileage pay did not change. The only changes were to the sign on bonus for solo drivers and the detention pay.
Edit: I reread the email to make sure and apparently the layover and breakdown pay changed too, however I don't see the difference. I thought it was always this way. Unless the exception for being at home, refusing a load, or refusing another truck is a new thing. -
You only get breakdown pay after 48 hours?!?
asphaltreptile311 and motocross25 Thank this. -
Yup, it's been that way since I started last October and I think it has been that way for a while before that. Luckily my truck is a '23 so it hasn't been an issue for me yet, but I can imagine it sucks for those drivers with a little bit older trucks.Last edited: Sep 6, 2024

Breakdown pay is a weird one. When I first started, breakdown pay was whatever you spent on a hotel. They would refund you what you paid, then give the the same amount as breakdown.
If you stayed in a $100 per night hotel and paid out of pocket up front, you would get $200 on your next settlement after you submitted receipt.motocross25 and Cobrawastaken Thank this. -
A suite at the Ritz Carlton it is then!!Redtwin, Cobrawastaken and wulfman75 Thank this.
