Logging sleeper berth is a DOT requirement if you are using split sleeper. I have been dinged for a log violation during an inspection because I had logged it as off duty.

The 10hrs just gives you a full break and allows you a new 14 hr clock the next day. If you start driving after only 8hrs you don't get a full 14hrs on duty. It just makes it easier to keep track of hours.

Of course if you need to go after 8hrs or whatever to make an appointment time you can do it, but just know that you will not have a full 11hrs drive/14hrs on duty until you get a full 10hr break.

Cool, also does checking the "Will pair SB" stop your clock when you go off duty for the first split?

I mean I'm gonna try to use split sleeper to make it but, I gotta go from Dodge City, KS to Murray, KY, for a 5 AM delivery Friday, I'm picking up this load tomorrow at 8 AM. If the appointment was at 5 PM then I could've made it, but that's at least 700 miles from there for an AM delivery? Yeah, it might be late... I think they already had this pre-plan on me for when I delivered my last load yesterday, but since I delivered it today instead, it kinda messed things up a little bit for me, even if I did delivered it yesterday, and went and get closer to my load today, it would've still be a tight delivery just because of the delivery time.

So do you leave that box checked or do you unchecked it in the morning before doing pre-trip?

Are delivery times tight, or are you just not utilizing or understanding your HOS?

In general and not specific to your current company, Default is still to dispatch based on 55 mph and all Transportation Management Software will warn if a load can't be made based on Hours of Service. Some companies may be dispatching at 60 but I can't see anyone going beyond that. It won't stop from dispatching just warn the company. Every single company will dispatch a driver on a load they know will be late, its just the nature of the industry now, if its a regular customer they may have flexibility with the delivery times and didn't update the load info. This is the tradeoff for the flexibility is you dispatch a late appt. so they aren't on the hook for the detention.

My first three loads weren't tight, this load is coming from Dodge City KS to Murray KY, that's at least 700 miles, I'm picking up today it’s due tomorrow at 5 AM... I can't make that unless I drive illegally all night for 12hrs, without counting the loading time, I gotta take a 10hrs break, if it was 5 PM then yes I could've make it, even if it was 9 AM, I could've made it, but that's a tight delivery time, maybe they just wanted to get this load out of the way, I sent dispatch a message and I'm waiting for their answer, while I'm waiting to get loaded.
