And eliminate fuel taxes, to avoid double-taxation.

Indiana spends all their money on orange barrel rental fees. Maybe they should look at what the real problem is.

VA was gonna make I-81 a toll road...that plan didn't work out. A previous IN governor leased the current toll roads to other countries, that didn't work out. Since the interstates were federally funded to be built in the 1st place, I think the feds might have a say in placing tolls on existing interstate... especially with the current administration in the big house.

I-80 has been a toll road for many many years. Why is this news? I already take US30 instead of I-80. There are other US hiways that run the same routes as the interstates. You just need to weigh the pros and cons of a little faster vs some more money. Personally I try to stay out of the state as much as possible. In the last 25-30 years I have been pulled over more in Indiana than any other state by far and almost all were some B.S. reason.

    Sorry, I wasn't clear.

I think it's pretty dumb to cut income and property taxes and then try to fill the budget shortfall by increasing fees and introducing new taxes. It's a less efficient form of taxation.

You are correct. However... Most truckers passing through the state dont vote IN the state. So if they can save their people some $$$ while maintaining roughly the same over all pile of cash, they are likely to get re-elected. And thats why they want it. And lets face it, we pay the bulk of the tolls. The tolls on cars barely cover standard tollway expenses (payroll, equipment maintenance, ect)
