Was with them for 5 years. Mostly no touch freight. My record for miles driven to find an empty was 620. Certain days it will seem like mission impossible.

NOTE: I saw Knight lose many customers because drivers consistantly couldnt find MT's to meet their pickups!!
EDIT:
BTW, Knight will not always have 'Driver Unload' on their Pre-plans! Some is their fault and some is the customer's fault--some customers dont consider handing freight off the tailgate as driver unload---only if they have to bring into their warehouse.
'Just' 2 of my horror stories :
1) P/U'd at Otay Mesa, a furniture load w/3 stops in the SF Bay area. Was 3 store Chinese owned/labored stores, no dock, not labeled 'drvr unld', but had to pull out/hand down using only a hand dolly of 26K lbs of recliners & sleeper sofas--all heavy stuff. Took a day off @ a truck stop to recover!
2) Case where Knight 'won the business' over another co----P/U'd a load of bagged salt at a Moab salt mine, took to water cond place in Vegas, no dock, slight up hill backed park, with 45K lbs on 15 pallets---was 105 deg that afternoon, and pulled all out using pallet jack to fork lift. Each pallet was bowed/warped with the 3K lbs weight, weighing more than my car! Fork driver said that these loads were usually done by flat bed truck and side unloaded! Apparently Knight 'won' the business w/a dry van since no cost to tarp and secure the load. Also, wasnt labeled drvr unload, and told my DM (one of the Knight bros/cousins sons at the time) to not ever take this load again!!
Also, I was in my mid-50's at the time of both these loads, and lucky for Knight I didnt have heart probs and was in fairly good shape!Last edited: Jun 15, 2012

If you want just 'a job' so as to be 'happy' with, I can get you one in Tucson as a recycler & refurbisher of used septic tanks....it's a 'job!' -
ok guys whats up, today in houston I was at the clorox plant off I10 and I saw a knight truck pulling a heartland express trailer .

I just started with Knight and am running the west, some Tx and little Midwest. I gotta say, they pay goid and yea some low to moderate runs but the pay compensates for that. I recommend Knight.

the dallas terminal will send you out with dot oos defects. shop manager will tell your dispatcher nothing is wrong with the truck. dispatch then tells you nothing is wrong with the truck. roll or quit are your options.

I drive for Knight. I'm based out of Tulare. I bust my butt for them and they work with me. As for MTs, it's easy, find a yard that's got something that needs a local delivery, deliver the load, and you get the said MT. So I have never had a problem with finding MTs.
Also, I average 500-600 miles a day, I haul hazmat and Canada loads. I'm home every weekend. I make over 1k a week, and sometimes as high as 1400 a week.
And lately I'm Wal Mart dedicated, and I never leave California now and I still make 1k a week.
What I'm saying, work for it, and they will work with you. You may not always get the best load right away but they'll keep you moving. I think the lowest amount of miles I've had since starting with Knight was 1700 miles in a week, but that was when I was doing local runs and I was either paid a percentage of the load or by the hour with extra pay on top. I still made 1k in the week. After this year is over I'll assume I will have made a total of about 52k.
The only issues I have is the sitting duck policy where in some places you can't help it if you're waiting to be unloaded. After I'm unloaded, I go line 5 and drive to the nearest truck stop, wal mart, or in many cases, home or a terminal. And my available stop locations tripled because I am Wal Mart dedicated. Any security having issues with where I'm parked I show my Wal Mart badge and they go on their business. And how did I get this position? I'll tell you, just being on time everywhere I go, being a safe driver, and staying on top of everything. My DM will get me set up with a week's worth of preplans and I'll know exactly where I will be at any given time. All I asked him, is to make sure I make at least 1,000 a week, and I'll do the rest for him. And that's how we work.skyviper73 Thanks this.
