Just wondering if anyone here insures both a tractor and semi? I received a quote for my 17 F350 dually. I only run for two direct clients and have a small radius. The Ford is registered for its max gcvw as a tractor, apportioned etc. in my fourth year. I received a quote for 9k which is about 1/3 of when I began. My issue is adding my 2015 Cascadia almost triples the total price. It’s not adding an entire other liability policy as I am the only driver and switch between the two. It’s value now is around 15k. Has anyone insured two trucks like this before? Any tips? I thought of a separate agent and carrier for one of them and cover both under the single liability. The agent said it’s because they are two different types of trucks but in the eyes of dot, both are registered the same. Thanks.

That’s how insurance companies works now. Example: I bought a newer truck and tried to insurance it to drive it home. Needed some minor work and was going to park it after it got home. They told me it would have to be a full add on. So I ended finding an insurance company to insure for a one way trip. Now, I was in the process of selling my older truck and adding the newer one, was going to park the old one and run the newer one. They said NO. Long as you own both(registered), both have to be insured. And they wanted to see the bill of sale when I sold the older one if I only one to be covered. Luckily it worked out at the end. Moral of the story, 2 trucks, 2 policies. Insurance companies said no more switching trucks with one driver.

Their Greedy. Basically. Got into same thing. I told them old truck went down, parked in backyard growing weeds around it, dropped tags and insurance. They didn’t want me to do it, i said either do it, or im going somewhere else. Why throw away 22k/year over about 7000/year. They dropped it.

It is two different trucks, the Ford doesn't haul large loads as does the cascadia so the risks are a lot higher with the actual semi than the pickup truck. So the increase makes sense.
