I am from Toronto, ontario and I am thinking of buying a 2012 international prostar max force 13 engine. It has 750000 kms and the price is only $13000 as the dealer bought it off an auction. The truck was being driven in British Columbia. I test drove the truck few times and it felt good with no lights on the dash.
I know I’ve heard bad reviews about these engines, but some people said it’s a 50/50 chance that the engine might bad, sometimes it can end up being good.
Since it’s driven 750,000 km in 5-6 years I feel like the truck was mostly on the road than in the garage.
Is it worth taking a small risk on this truck for that amount of money? Experts please help me.

    Thank you

I own a ProStar, with a Cummins... Buy it for $5,000 and drop a Cummins in it. You are wasting your money, stay away from the MaxFart.

MaxForce is literally the worst new generation emissions engine so far to ever disgrace the highway.

Do not, I repeat DO NOT buy that truck or you will be sorry.

They are waiting for some sucker (you) to cut their losses a bit.

    There's a reason it's cheap.

5 years ago International couldn't give them away, I'm surprised to see one with half a million miles that hasn't burnt up or been scrapped.

Even when running right they do not pull good. I drive one for a few months in 2010, mine would try to stall taking off in 2nd gear with a 30000 pound load. They turned the HP up to 450 or 475, i dont remember what, just to try and get me to stay in it. It still was gutless .... The driver's who had it after I did constantly had problems with the emissions system.

Don't say I didnt warn you, you'll be sorry if you buy it.

You can, but it would be a bit expensive. Find a ProStar with a high mileage Cummins and run it down to Griffin GA and have it properly in framed. Haggai Automotive and Diesel Repair.

For the cost, effort, etc I wouldn't even waste my time with an ISX swap even if the truck was free. JMO.
