well.. a 5 dollar raise.. that's a lot. That's an extra 800 a month before taxes (assuming you work 160 hours a month)
good choice! paid more + less work than the alternative..

I do hope you made the right choice here scifi. I have never been impressed by a company paying low wages, then when you have a chance to better yourself, suddenly they can "afford" to pay you more. There is just something about that, that pisses me off.
However, you know the company and what it is like. Good luck to you!Mike2633 Thanks this. -
If you're company offer to match just to make you stay, they must ready need you. There's a company you want to stay with. Maybe move up in management
scifi199085 Thanks this. -

For some reason in the back of head i just feel like i really want to drive trucks...i just don't want to get screwed coming into the industry with a bad company. ..as everyone else, i have bills and a kid to take care of...i turned down Coca-Cola but for some reason i always wanted to start with TMC, their driver seem happy with good pay...any thoughts?

Coca Cola would be pretty legit. Here's the thing that's nice about driving local food/beverage trucks, no log books, I haven't filled out a log book since truck driving school. I don't have to perform some goofy backing maneuver to get into some slot at a truck stop.
I don't run by any weigh scales, I mean the DOT could pull me over and they do from time to time pull over our trucks, but not that often.
You'll see your son every night. I mean TMC would be fine for me, because I don't have any off spring, but a few of the guys at my yard were ex OTR drivers and all the guys with kids quit and went into beer hauling because they wanted to be home.
It's not easy if you have a family being out on the road and gone. Like I said OTR is fine for someone like my self who has no responsibilities, I'm not married nor do I have children so I'm who they would want.
OTR has draw backs though, you get to a shipper or reciever and they take forever to load or unload. Or play other stupid games with you. Plus all the endless hours you spend waiting at the dock, is time your not getting paid for, now granted some companies pay detention and stuff like that, but that's all a smoke and mirrors thing to, because say Big Time Business Corporation Corp is your companies best customer, well they want to upset there biggest and best customer so they may forget all about charging that customer detention pay.
It seems to me like the OTR field is very competitive a lot of companies all fighting for the same slice of the pie, of course that's all smoke and mirrors too because all these customers usually don't put all there eggs in one basket they spread it out a little bit they give some to Schneider, Werner, USX, JB Hunt and Swift. It's all done by design.
Really Coca Cola and the beer places are not bad there smaller not as corporate, where I work, as long as your doing what your supposed to do and customers are not complaining on you, they don't get rid of you. In fact we were talking about that this morning one of the other drivers said "It's not all that easy to get fired from here, really the only people who ever had, were people who mouthed off and were rude to customers."
Food Service (Beer, Pop, Sysco, GFS and US Foods) and local delivery is a different then OTR . A Sysco driver said it to me best he said "Well I'm married and have a house and if I didn't have those things I would throw my stuff in a truck, and live in the truck, but if you are married and have a house why would you want to leave home?"
Another guy in truck driving school also made a good point he said "While I'm out on the road for 6-7 weeks at a time, who's cutting the grass at my house and making sure it's still standing while I'm gone?"
Just some things to think about.snatale42 and scifi199085 Thank this. -
You made the right move.
I work for a independent coke bottler.
Its not worth it.scifi199085 Thanks this. -
It depends on what bottler you work for. I work for a corporate bottler coca cola refreshments. And they pay us very well. All of us are hourly. Hours are good about 40 to 50 a week. Plus all holidays off and 3 weeks vacation. Hard to beat for a Monday thru Friday schedule
