SNI would see zero return on investing in an inverter and continual costs to maintain.
It's profit margins that drive all of SNI decisions and profits ALONE.

Being that I'm like the op and tired of crappy TS food...many a time have I considered just hooking a 1.5k inverter (or 1k.) up to the jumpstart terminals.
..I have to lift my hood for the pretrip anyways. Why not have a smoothie being made when you're finishing up the rest of the truck? -
Except there would be a long term profitable return...
Payment for insurance to cover unhealthy drivers...
Less turnover/training cost...
More experienced drivers more likely to stay. Means potentially lessened accidents.
SNI either doesn't see a good enough return in doing that, or they don't care because they know they don't keep the trucks or drivers.tinytim Thanks this. -

I know Ashley treats their drivers well. I know the large carriers don't treat their drivers so well.
An inverter is a very small investment with close to 0 maintenance required. The cost of recruiting and training that goes with a turnover rate near 100% is huge.
An inverter won't solve Swift or Schneider's turnover problems but that small driver convenience sure wouldn't hurt it. -
I guess all these major companies have money to throw away. That's why they rather hire 100 people every week than to keep the drivers they have.

About how long will that fridge run off your batteries without idling? Make it through a 10 hour restart in cold weather with no problems? I'd really like one but battery drain during winter holds me back. Not a big deal during the summer where I have to idle to stay cool most nights anyway.Vilhiem Thanks this.

I have a dometic plug in cooler refrigerator and it uses less power than those plug in coolers but they cost about 300 and up. But they actually freeze your food depending on the temp you set it on. And there is a low voltage disconnect. The only downside is the weight of the larger units.
Vilhiem Thanks this. -
I bought jumper cables & cut the clamps off. I also installed a 50 amp fuse on the positive cable. I have a 1500 inverter. I've watt used it for over 10 years & never had a problem. It runs anything I want it to. I bought a small "college dorm" refrigerator at Wal-Mart for $80 10 years ago & still use it. It is small but it's better than the fake food served at truck stops. One company I worked for wouldn't allow the inverter so I hooked it up & would unhook it if going through the terminal.Vilhiem Thanks this.

I know that's right. What they don't know won't hurt them

You need more than 300 watts to cook. Many companies will allow 1500 or more if you get installed by mechanic.
I have 1500 in my truck and use mini fridge ($80 at walmart) and microwave ($53 at walmart).
