SDaniel is spot on. It may seem a large investment on training, but I honestly think its the better way to go.

Daddy's little girl - also spot on. My wife is 5'2" and has no problems driving. Sounds like dennisroc is after drop and hook - lits of driving no sitting.

There's not too many places out there that are really that bad, you can always get a heads up from others on bad areas or truck stops.

I'm not much a fan of CRST, and not so much central either - I can explain later without hurting anybodys feelings (!)

Good on you both for wanting to give it a go. I dont think you'll regret it.

    dennisroc Thanks this.

Contracts , I do not like. You are locked in a job that may not be a fit for the two of you. Holding that over your head to keep you from improving your position , while mistreating you is wrong. Not trying to discourage you , just letting you be informed.

Blairandgretchin, you say I'm looking for a drop and hook and no sitting. I'm not sure what this is but I think it is like dropping a trailer and picking one up and right back on the road.
I guess that is what I would like to do. I just thought maybe it is easier than having to help load and unload. Is this a good thing or bad. I am real new to this and don't have a clue what I really want and appreciate all the help I can get. What do you think is a good thing for a brand new husband and wife team ???
    Thanks,Dennis

Something else I have been thinking about is when other husband and wife teams started out does anyone know if the husband had trouble sleeping while the wife was driving. I think I will have faith in her and her training but still curious.:biggrin_25520:

Dennis ROC, women tend to make better drivers than men. If you can happily sit beside her in a car while driving, you'll be OK. You develop an inbuilt mercury switch when teaming to allow the other adequate rest. Women are often safer, no testosterone problems!

Yes, that's as a company driver. Its 66 cents per mile, 6000 miles a week, we don't run as hard as some, I've seen 220k gross W2's from harder running teams.

My wife and I drove team for 10 years... we worked for several companies.. with gordon last 4 years. My wife left trucking in February and I sols now. Of all the jobs we had I liked rrunning produce the best because usually once you were loaded you drove cross country. This was when I got my best rest in. The wife could get behind the wheel and go all night on the same interstate and I would not have to worry about her getting us lost. Trust me it is an issue. Also carriers like gordon where I am now have lots of short runs which require drop and hooks while you are trying to sleep. Good luck with that. If we were ever to go back to teaming again it would only be to haul produce across country. It may pay a little less but it is much easier on your body.

Understood. Husband and wife teams have a special value. They stick together longer, have less problems. When broken down, the real money/time equation is the driving. Highest cents per mile, and maximum miles in a legal week, with home time.

ODFL can't help you till you have 1 year exp. However, if you can attain your cdl through a private school, and then find a decent company, and stick it out for a year with a good record, then the sky is the limit., well at least the average cruising airline limit. !!

Anybody else help with a good starter team company with fewer unloads and detention time??????????
