No it's not too old. I just saw a driver yesterday running for US Express with just one leg. Everything he does in his duties is slower, but he does get it done.
There are loads where the driver has to hustle on every aspect from cradle to grave, but a slower working driver doesn't have to accept those loads. I would say a savvy Social Security recipient could be a little more picky on loads and choose only those that have time on them that the young bucks don't want to do because they need to go mach 2 with their hair on fire.

Lol let's put that keyboard thug mentality aside, you do enough of it on the cb leave it there. The difference with you approaching that age is you did not come out here as a new student at 65.

The OP is a Swift mentor . :biggrin_25526: . Older newbies probably don't show him the respect the young boys do .

I don't have a problem with "old" folks, from ready your post you are used to the demand for this job, you know what to expect, long driving hours etc that's different than some one comming out here saying they have to stop every 1- 1.5hrs to take a break, dosing off after 5-6 hrs behind the wheel daily.

This post might offend some folks but like I clearly stated their is a difference between some one who has been driving and some one who is just starting to drive at that age

It also depends what their previous career was . Were they a construction worker or car salesman ? Background makes more of a difference than age .

Man you are so wrong it is pathetic. I know people in there 70's that run marathons and probably does it faster than you can. I know one guy that is 84 that runs a D-9 Dozer for 16 hours a day at a gold mine, which is much harder than driving a truck. It is not about age, it is about health. If you are 90 and can pass the health test and can do the job there is no reason you can not drive a truck.

Wrong, I do not get my full bennies from the government until 70 now. Presently 56. I receive 2/3's at 65.

If I was a mentor, my preference would be to train someone that is older. At least they have been around the block a few times, and they have a better grasp on what is going on in the world. I think that there is still a driver out here somewhere that is in a wheelchair, and his truck is specially built for him, by him, and he gets the job done. Like others have said, if can get the job done, pass the physical, then why not. I would be interested to see what would happen if a company failed to hire someone at that age, and use that for a reason.

I don't 'wrestle' with tandems or landing gears. Would the OP like some 'old guy' to show him how to do it easily?

The OP drives for Swift . You'd probably have to wrestle with their equipment . :yes2557:
I can safely say that because Injun's not around. :yes2557:
