I'm looking to get my CDL class A license. Before I do that I've been trying to get my GED since I never finished high school. I've been trying to get it for months and it's not going great. I'm just wondering if it's even worth trying to get my CDL class A at this point since I assume it's harder to get a class A than to get your GED.

The school Im looking at seems good it's around 6k it's called driving academy but don't want to waste my money if I'm just gonna end up failing to get my license and don't really wanna get a year contract with prime or any other company. Could use some advice.

Obviously asking this question for people that have taken the GED and also got a class A

It depends on why you are having difficulty or what is causing the difficulty getting your GED. The regulations are going to feel and seem super complicated the first day you learn about them, but they are just a couple of rules of thumb all operating at the same time. The endorsement tests for the CDL (incl General, Combination, Air-Brakes) plus whatever else you add (I strongly suggest you add at least Doubles/Triples (1 test) and Tanker are just multiple-choice tests and the question and answers are all online.

If your issue is reading, then there is some reading in CDL school, but not very much. If your difficulty is concentrating, then yes there will be issues because you need to concentrate on s few things at the same time while you drive and when you back trailers. So, you need to think about what causes your difficulty and maybe we can help show you how to remove that difficulty. CDL school isn't usually considered very difficult unless you have some sort of physical hardship. I promise they teach people who are dumber and smarter than you how to drive a truck and they do it successfully, if they learn the skills and materials in school at at your first driving job. The job is usually more stressful than outsiders think it will be.

Some companies are going to require applicants to have a GED.

Several drivers on this forum acquired the high school GED or Diploma from here. One well known trucking company requires at least a GED and accepts this.

Honestly, about 15 years ago her kids were going through the process of GED -

I thought I'd be a big shot smarty pants and try the tests. Yeah - school was 40 years ago for me, I failed miserably on the grammar and some of the math.

I've been trucking for 20 years now, test taking is easy for me , and I've made out decently. The CDL paper test is simple with a bit of study. The skills test depends on the individual, some folks are more adept at learning practical tasks.

Fear not - you're probably smarter than you've been led to believe.

Having trouble with math and science not really reading comprehension. Although it does take me awhile to grasp information so I do read the same passages over and over until I get it.

Not really looking to get anything fake. What happens if I get into an accident someone hits me I’m pretty sure they’ll do a deep dive into me plus want to get it legit.
