I have dealt with a few things that go boom hahaha. We got the privledge of driving 50foot tankers throught Iraq too. Talk about skid marks in your drawers.
Is going local as a newbie a mistake?

Exactly my thoughts. Holding a wheel and smoking a cigarette doesn't take much brain power. -
Well just to update this thread. I've been out of school for about a week and ive been sitting around calling this company once or twice a day. I finally got ahold of the guy thats doing the hiring and he said he'd see where my app was and then give me a call back. That was at noon today so I finally called him back at about 330 today and no answer. I'm getting tired of sitting on my butt waiting on them to decide what they're going to do. I would love to have this job but if I'm not going to be able to start for another 2 weeks then it ain't gonna happen. I could jump right on with schneider or wse if I wanted too. My question is it worth waiting or not? My biggest thing is I am married with one little girl and I have no income now that i'm out of the military.

i dunno...........I just quit a local gig, yup, was home every night, but getting up at 0330 to make the 0500 start time, and than still working 10-14 hrs a day, and driving back home again, i found i got more rest and saved more money on gas by doing otr or regional, i've got me a good gig now i think, i just run 3k a week twice to the same shipper and still get my rest, my w/ends off and a nice check too, good luck in watever u decide

Finally got the phone call today! I have a interview this coming monday. thanks for all the support and answers

Good news, hope you get the job. if you do, take everything in that they teach you and take it serious. in the end you will glad you have a local job and regular hometime. -

YES!!!!!!
Seriously. I understand the situation you're in but you need to remember that you have an opportunity that is 1 in 1,000,000. Two weeks is nothing, it would be worth waiting two months if it meant walking into a local gig pulling oxygen. Seriously, I don't think you realize the golden ticket you're holding right now. If I were you, I would proceed very carefully so as to insure you do not piss off the wrong person or otherwise spoil the chance you've been given. -
I understand that this is a rare opportunity it's just tough to sit around with no income. Since I've got a interview I'm gonna wait until they tell me yes or no. Thanks for the reassurance guys and stay safe out there.

Okay so update. I called down to the company that I was supposed to have a interview with and they blew me off and didn't call me once today. I have another company that told me if this local job didn't work out they'd love to have me come drive for them. So I called them today and he asked what happened so I told him exactly what happened. The reason I called them and took the job was, they told me weather or not this other job worked out I always had a spot waiting for me. So now your saying this ###### turned down a golden opportunity, to go OTR. Not so fast my friend because this other company set me up with a local job pulling tankers for .50 cents more then the other job. I know I've definitley had someone watching over me and giving me so many blessings. Whats the chance of a new guy getting two opportunities like this.
