Does "line haul" mean doing exactly the same route every day? If not, how much variety?
I sure would like to have a home life again and will take a little less if these hours aren't too much.
Is it true about Saia and OD?

I think in general, it comes down to your management team at your terminal, what run you end up with and the other drivers/dock workers you come across that makes or breaks your experience at an LTL company. I have met drivers with other LTL companies that love their job. I have also met some that are just waiting it out for a better opportunity. When you break all the LTL companies down, they are all the same. We all move the same freight. We all have about the same cost of shipping, the same amount of damages, the same issues with equipment. The difference is what type of tractor you can be assigned...Volvo, Freghtshaker, etc., wages vary slightly, benefit wait times vary...very little seems to be different. And with Con-way you get to rebid what you are doing every year (L/H, P&D, Hostler, dock, start time and L/H run)...which I think is the only LTL that does that.
There is nothing wrong with Con-way Freight. I have been here a while, running linehaul, and absolutely love it. I have talked to several OD drivers and most are very happy. I never really get a chance to talk to SAIA. Most of their drivers I have ran into are grumpy. I avoid FedWrecks at all cost. The terminal I run to every night is right next to UPS and they seem quit happy were they are at.
You have others that I run into down here that their drivers rarely talk to CWF employees, like AAA Cooper, Dugan, YRC, USF, Estes, ABF, R+L, Central Freight....and dare I say....Beaver Express. I know very little of these.
If you have any more questions, feel free to ask or PM me.Last edited: Jun 21, 2015

Lin haul is typically night and p d is daytime. I saw a lot of FedEx trucks in ditches going out west. If a big gust of wind hits you at 70 mph your empty doubles fly off the road. Fetex

I applied almost a month ago for dock position at Saia just outside Dallas. Was hoping to get in than apply for driver training program. Every single time I apply at Saia I NEVER hear back from HR. Anyone have any suggestions? I'm gonna go there tomorrow but not sure I will make it past the guard shack. I have consistent long work history driving and delivery with classB and HAZ. My record is clean now for last 3 years or more, don't know what else to do. When I call Saia HR in Georgia they say they can't help me and they will call if interested. I also emailed HR, they directed me to the careers page as usual.
