I run regional (home weekends), the local guys at my company work m-f and are home by noon most days, granted they start they day at 3 or 4 am but still, they average about 3 stops a day, drive less than 40 miles and they take home after taxes 1200 on a slow week. I ran local a few times and I would much rather do local than regional, Im just a rookie so Im waiting for some time to bid on a local route. Trust me, only getting 10 hours off or not, sleeping in your bed, taking a shower in your house beats the truckstop routine ANY day of the week

Well both of those local gigs sound perfect. Wish I had those opportunities where I'm at.

I know exactly what you mean. I still go over the scales and maintain my logs... But I get paid to sit around waiting on trailers. They don't require me to do anything except to sit and be ready. Internet on my smartphone kills the time. Blogging on TTR or reading up stuff while drawing pay for a dispatching error is awesome. Best part is, I get home usually by 8 AM at the very latest (I work the overnight shift), and my big fuzzy dog is happy to see me.
I wish the entire trucking industry could model itself after LTL instead of sending their hardest working drivers out for weeks at a time. How much does OTR make for having to wait on trailers/download? -
I believe that one of the hardest things for me to do, when I was local P & D, was to sit and wait. Sure, I was paid by the hour. But I also knew how much work there was to be done. And if everyone did not pull their share, it just made it that much tougher on everybody else. Now I didn't spend a LOT of time sitting on my butt waiting, but when I did, it irritated the heck out of me.
lexmark Thanks this. -
Sitting does suck! Especially on a friday afternoon like yesterday when i sat from 11:35 am to 1:50pm then ran my Butt off to make the pickups that should have been given to me earlier! -
I have been driving local for the last 3 years I love it.
