Is Part time driving possible?

    As others have stated you have to count your other job on your log. The only way you might be able to skirt that is if you get like a dump truck job on the weekend or truly local job running around town where you are within 150 miles and don’t have to do a log. But even then god forbid something happens, I dunno how all that would pan out. My guess is not well. I’m not well versed enough in all that to offer any substantial input, so I’ll just shut up. But at least that idea is out there and someone with some knowledge can chime in if that’s a viable option or not.

    All the local exemption is, it the need to to keep the graph log vs. a time sheet. Oh, and no 30 minute brake needed, HOS is still 100% in force.
    Still have the 11 driving, 14 on-duty, 10 hour off duty and 70 hour clocks.

    I chuckle everytime I hear this. It's just about every truck drivers dream to drive part-time. It rarely, if ever, works out. Oh sure, they'll promise you the moon, then 2 weeks in, "you need to go to Wilkes-Barre, PA.,,,just this once",,and goodbye part time. Believe me, we've all tried. What you could do, is a seasonal gig, you may drive for 8 weeks during a harvest, but it's 25 hours a day,,,for 8 weeks. Sorry, you are asking the impossible in this industry, trucking rarely works on a part time basis.

    I say go for it. I bet being an outlaw trucker will be a real adrenaline rush. Also, if you do it, I’ll live vicariously through you, which means I’d appreciate you detailing all your trials and tribulations of being an outlaw trucker in this thread.

    I know there will be MANY of us in here subscribing and waiting with anxious anticipation for your every post.

    Good luck to the OP, sometimes it just takes a little homework to find the right carrier. I have a full time industry related job and drive part time (different carrier) when I want. Sometimes I drive Saturday sometimes Saturday and Sunday, sometimes not at all.

    The last 2 Saturdays I did the same exact thing, 610 miles and $426 gross each day and slept in my bed at night. Part time driver is where I intend to stay for the foreseeable future.

    We need you here in NE Wisconsin, part time , casual, more jobs than drivers.
    You will have to log your full time job , the problem with that is a lot of short haul local work is on a 60 hour clock.

    Amazon might hire you shuttling trailers to and from their off sites. But good luck as I don’t see it happening because if a truck brakes down your not leaving for days sometimes.

    The short answer is.......NO. If you didn't have another job.... MAYBE. Jump in with both feet or don't waste your time or money with CDL school.
