I'm glad you decided to take the advice that was given to you.

The idea of working for a temp agency is a good one, but I don't think they would hire you right out of school. I think you would need 2 years of experience.

If you try to get a job with a mega or with some other company and then quit, it may be difficult to get hired because you have to give them an employment history.

One way that you could get some experience with trucks, although it's not trucks for hire, would be to find work on a farm somewhere. I think there is an exemption for agriculture that if whatever you're hauling comes back to the farm for resale there's no CDL required. But that doesn't help you learn about for-hire Trucking.

You might be able to find a part-time job working in a garage. It's not really driving but it would get you into the trucks and move them around and most importantly if it was a real Trucking garage you would see all the repairs and the cost and all of that.

For what it's worth though, if it were me, if I made $100,000 a year and I had three months off I would buy real estate and take that three months and work the property over and then the following years see if you can afford another one or if it's every other year or whatever it is.

Real estate really is the way to wealth. You can make money in trucking, but there's just so much expense and regulation.

Making millions of dollars with trucks and bulldozers and whatever else requires colossal capital investment and is so reliant on labor. The guys that really really make money are the guys that are on Shark Tank. All of their money is made on paper not equipment.

And the only group of people that can rival that are people in real estate.

My first job (Class B, they had one OTR class A driver) was a seasonal position with commercial nursery. They hire drivers in the spring for the baby flowers, through the summer for general plants/flowers, fall for mums and winter Christmas Tree. It was originally a Christmas Tree farm that is growing like crazy to a giant greenhouse. It was good work but the pay was in the tank. I liked being on the farm all the time. Also, during Christmas Tree season the drivers drove school buses around the farm taking people out to cut their tree.
    Good Luck!
