You aren't a trucker until you get pulled over by a motor grader on a windy mountain dirt road with an oversize load trying to tell you that you can't be up there because "they don't even allow school busses on this road" and that you are screwed because the bridge is out at the end of the road and there is no where to turn around. Smiling nicely, I just pointed to THE BRIDGE on my trailer and said, "I know." It was fun doing the 7 point turn at the next intersection and then back the last mile down there though.
If you guys are trying to find parking at 3 am you're doing something wrong. That's when your day should be starting, not ending
Trucking is like golf. So if you want to be a good golfer you have to be able to use every golf club in your bag. To be a good trucker you have to be able to go backward as well as you do forward. Have to be able to use every gear and every switch up on the dash. A golfer doesn't say " I'm not good at putting so I will just play the long game only."
Not possible with every load. Besides 3 am is easy. Many drivers are starting at that time. In my limited experience 8pm to 1 am is the hardest but still workable if you look for the small mom and pops.
Amen, that's actually a tad later than my preferred starting time. But I can't argue with a $4 a mile load from a real good customer that couldn't finish the Frack valves until late afternoon. I'll take any load, any time, anywhere.
I spotted a 53' roll-tite deck trailer at a customer today. Had to alley dock it into the spot. Fortunately it wasn't blind side.
