Ports need to be automated as that’s a point of entry.
as for trucks that’s going to happen. I’m on my way out anyways as I won’t have a bone in the game in 1.4 years.
Is there really a trucker shortage?

My point was that many of the people who are advocating for more automation in the ports are also the same people who are resisting automated trucks. When it doesn't risk their job, they are indifferent to automation. When it might result in an increase in their income or a decrease in their outlays, they are all about automation.bryan21384, TravR1 and Rideandrepair Thank this.

Some things have improved. Pay has increased somewhat recently. That will drop, first sign of the next recession. Not to mention all the work visas that will be issued.

I don’t believe theres a Drivers shortage. I believe theres a system that wants to ward off paying higher wages to Drivers. That includes the Government. Cheap freight rates are good for the economy. Freights hot now, but for how long? Compared to the last 20 yrs.( probably longer) I can say it hasn’t been very Lucrative. 2004 was a somewhat of a good year. All the others since 2000 weren’t that great. Plenty of Trucks to cover the Freight. Only shortage is the shortage on a Drivers paycheck. Most don’t seem to care, they make excuses. I don’t care if wages drive up shipping costs, and add to inflation. Other Industries don’t seem to mind, charging what they can. Drivers should demand higher wages, instead of blaming inflation, or higher wages in other Industries for their lack of buying power.

Just because the Mega carriers order thousands of trucks to win contracts and then can’t fill them isn’t a driver shortage. Double the amount of freight moving by making everyone pull double or turnpike doubles, that should squash it.

There's only a shortage of people willing to work for pennies on the dollar, don't worry though that opens up visas for people who will take the low pay.
