Swift's policy is no cell phones, period, while driving.
Inverters may not be hard wired into a company truck. You are allowed to have the plug in type. You can have a TV or computer. You may not hard wire a refrigerator into a company truck. There is no plug in inverter strong enough to run a 120V refrigerator. You are allowed to have a 12V cooler.
Your buddy is coming into Swift when all of the family plan folks are wanting to come back to work after taking the holidays off. There are not enough trucks at this given moment. However, by the end of the week, I can almost guarantee there will be 200 more open.
Some of the trucks are in disrepair because the drivers don't give a crap, it's not their equipment, so why should they take care of it? Trailers, same thing. They will drop a trailer, knowing it needs work and not report it because it's no longer their problem.
DOT already has roadside cameras that catch more than people blowing scales. Swift does not, although they do have some company whose job it is to follow Swifties around and see if they're being safe or not. Haven't seen one of those reports on the QC in a long time, so they may have stopped that. Cameras inside the truck is complete BS.
Any more questions?cjacksonii Thanks this. -

The original question was regarding Swift's policy. -
I'm not sure on that. The way I understand it is no phones period handheld or bluetooth. Anyone care to clarify this?

It says, I think, that you can't use a hand-held mobile phone but does that mean you can't use bluetooth? Even if you do your using a hand-held mobile while driving. -
our company sent every one a letter to sign stating its illegal to talk on cell at all while moving even with blue tooth in a cmv
they say its a 26 or 2700$ fine for the driver and 11000$ for the company.
when you get in a wreck the cops will check your phone records
our trucks have a nextel microphone and handset installed on the dashboard. if dispatch calls and changes your load we are only allowed to key up once so they know you got your orders -
Our small company said to just use a blue tooth head set.

Last February I got off a team truck and inquired about getting back into a solo company truck, they said 2 weeks waiting. But I could sign some papers and here's some keys to a shiny T660 right outside in the parking lot next to the driver's lounge. So that's what I did....
