I've been picking up here the past year and wonder why the hell is this plant in downtown??!!?? I've been in the boroughs so it's not nearly as bad but brings back some memories....Anybody know why it's in this location? When I pick up here it's drop N Hook and for live loads they use US Cold Storage south of town which is more suitable for big trucks. I try to swing into the drop lot in the middle of the night cause it's a pain in the A to turn onto Adams Street from Story Ave if there's traffic. Especially when there's 4 wheelers waiting at the light. I know my way around now but I'm sure some guys struggle 1st time in and out. Just curious on the history of the plant.

I don't know all the details, but it is located in the "Butchertown" neighborhood. The stock yards was across the street until it closed many years ago. Like many towns things that seem out of place today were the ideal spot 100 years ago when they opened. Originally I believe it located there to be in close proximity to the many workers who lived in the neighborhood and the railroad tracks that run thru. I agree it is a difficult spot to navigate with the rigs of today, but probably was a piece of cake years ago with a 40ft trailer and a single axle.
