Driving local, weren't you working an 80 hour log....no matter...if you were on a 70 hour log...you could have worked a 16 one day going into a 34 hour break.

Confused yet....keep going we have plenty of ammunition to keep you befuddled!:biggrin_25525:

LOL! yes yes! I just read the local-cdl 14 hour rule regarding local 150 mile radius driving where you can extend the 14 hrs once every 7 days :p

As soon as you finish your drive time (in the 14) (and depending on company if they require a 15 min post trip logged)...you go straight to Line 2 (or Line 1 if no sleeper)...sleeper to start your 10 hour break.

yes...what she said. you can drive 7 hrs to a shipper, go to line 4 for 30 hrs....(lets pretend they take forever to unload you)...you cannot go to line 3 and finish driving 4 hrs to get 11 hrs of driving in. you MUST take a 10 hr break.

Now, you driving a daycab without a sleeper? Cause what i do, I drive 5 hrs to a shipper.....show line 4 for 15 min....to show 'getting checked in/door assignment/backing'....then i plop my happy az in the sleeper and go to line 2 till they're done loading/unloading me. Dunno why you'd wanna kill off your 70 hr clock for showing that you're "waiting" to get unloaded when you're probably in the sleeper yourself. why not show it on line 2.? unless you're actually helping in the loading process.....

now I was told that the regs say we can't do that with the shipper/recievers, that it must all be shown as onduty not driving. I was tempted to log it off duty, but was told an azzhole dot, might cit me for it. Now sleeper, that makes sense to me, just wondering what the true legalness of it is.

The true "legalness" of it is, if you are on the dock, closing your doors or checking in/out, you are on duty. If you are standing outside your truck BSing with other drivers, in the potty or getting a snack off the salmonella wagon, you are off duty. If you are kicking back with your Android phone in your bunk checking out the fun n games here, you are in the sleeper. If it takes less than 8 minutes, it is flagged but not given time. If it takes 8 minutes more, it is given time.

It rarely takes more than 15 minutes to check in and sign paperwork. So now, someone tell me why I have to log on duty while I'm playing video games? Please?

    WileyHunter and otherhalftw Thank this.

i can just tell you what i do. and its never been an issue with the company, or any DOT official.

i drive there, drop to line 4 for 15 min..then show off duty for 15 min, then into the sleeper till i'm ready to roll again. Usually it dont take me but 5-7 minutes to walk to get my paperwork, pull out and close the doors. So out of the sleeper, i drop down to L3 when i'm ready to roll. And the only thing i note, is on L4 with city and state.

You are required to log all time on line 4 the minute you cross the shipper's gate and drive onto their property. If you run out of hours there and call your DM they will say "you should do a better job of trip planning huh?" The reality is that we have gotten so used to giving the customary 15 minutes then right up to sleeper that we think its OK. Remember way way back when the first time you did that and had sweat running down your brow because you knew it was wrong lol. After no lightening struck you down it became easier and easier to 'cook the book'.

okay...so then where to you log it if you bump the dock, and crawl in back and take a nap? dont tell me you log it on line 4. the way i just described is totally LEGAL. and to say otherwise, is just not correct.

if you log line 4 at a shipper waiting to get loaded, you must not make any money.......

    Injun Thanks this.
