Sorry to hear about your wife, I hope she is OK. Drivers need to get the OK for time off in writing via the QC then there is no he-said / she-said.

My best friend right now works for Knight, and he's miserable. Actually thats not quite right--he WANTS to work for Knight, but his truck has been broken down for (get this) 28 days since January 1st. His last 2 stretches unable to drive were 6 and 9 days respectively, spending every night in a different hotel than the previous night, along with 4 other 2-3 day breakdowns. He was denied a recent significant bonus because "he didn't log enough miles." Well no kidding. They refuse to give him a new truck, instead giving brand new trucks to guys fresh out of driver's school as an incentive to sign with them and not somewhere else. Utterly ridiculous.

Sounds like he is being black balled for some reason at the corp level. Did he piss someone off?

slowpoke is right!!! I worked for 'em back in 06. Luckily I was already on hometime. My mom had a heart attack. I called dispatch and they said they didn't have a problem with me taking extra time after i explained the situation. Well, a couple days later after mom started feelin a lil bit better, and my bro and sis in law came to help mom out, I call in and asked if they had a load for me (I left the truck at the Wilmer yard as my car was there.) They said I quit. Then they had the nerve to put on my DAC that I quit under dispatch!!!

Hey Drew, tell your friend to get the hell out of there. I spent a year "wanting" to work for Knight but Knight didn't give s..t about anything. Not the people I encountered at every terminal I went to. Chicago would constantly steal loads out of Tennessee that happend to be my loads home. Scrutinizing paychecks to catch their errors etc.

I quit 1000 miles from home, told them I will be purchasing the fuel to get home and were done. They found a load 15 miles away from where I was delivering 3 miles from house. I drove straight through, delivered that 1000 mile load 4 days later when it was due, turned in my truck and never looked back.

Slowpoke, sorry about your wife and I hope she has made a full recovery.

He's only been there a year, never missed a delivery window, no accidents, no damages. They're just letting a driver rot because it doesn't really cost them anything to do it--the truck is broke either way, who cares if the driver starves. Sick people.

Actually, Knight isn't as bad as some other companies out there! I've worked for them since I last posted on here 2 years ago, and the terminal I worked out of (Tulare, Ca) was great.

That said, some Knight terminals are awful in how they treat their drivers, and Kent, Wa. is a perfect example of this. Dominic - the a-hole running the show there, ought to have somebody beat his ###!

They do have their moments when they like to make drivers sit for days on end. Also, I recently learned that Keith Knight isn't running the show anymore - he retired at the beginning of the year. Now a board of directors is running things, and allegedely gave pay cuts to ALL drivers, and didn't bother mentioning anything about it.

    Check your pay online!

Drive 5 miles drive a 200 miles in search of empty. Your not getting paid for any of them. Go see for yourself how "great" Knight is.
