then ya never checked the in company job listings. That's how I got my slot when I was in, and every one that was there was either hired off the board or recruited by HR right out of College from a career fair. Funny how that works, guess if you didn't go to college or bother with the job postings it would be a secret now wouldn't it? These companies know there are plenty of drivers looking for off the road gig and hiring DMs that use to drive a truck make it where they have staff that can relate to their drivers if possible. It no secret just requires some homework on your part.

I typed "NINE", meaning "9" trailers.

Nice try claiming that I did not support my argument, but no cigar. In well over half the threads I read about Knight on TTR there was an issue 'finding empty trailers'. Nine ex-Knight trailers in one yard spotted by one guy = how many more trailers in other yards or scrap yards decommissioned not spotted by anyone?

Either way I support my argument--either Knight does not have enough trailers per authors' of threads on TTR about Knight because of (1) not replacing decommissioned ones, or (2) grabbing work without investing in the equipment to haul it, or (3) being to cheap to send inbound drivers hauling empties to an area where there is a shortage of trailers. Regarding, #3, FedEx Ground does--I don't know if any of my return trips to Chicago had any trailers loaded.

I have never read in a Schneider, JB Hunt, PAM, Werner, Swift, Stevens, USX, USA, Transcam, or even CRE thread where finding empties was an issue. Bottom Line: Knight IS the bottom of the barrel per what I read on TTR regarding offering available trailers for its drivers. Take about 100 hours like I did and read through some threads before spouting off.

The 5 was a typo I admit that. Now lets start discussing how wrong you are. Just because people don't post they can't find empties doesn't mean they can fine them. Worked for Swift as a driver and owner operator for many years, always had a hard time finding trailers. Equipment is replaced as it is retired by all the companies as it is scheduled to, as not having enough equipment to meet their customer demands only hurts their bottom line, and having old broken down trailers doesn't help their cause if that trailer is always in the shop for repairs as then that empty isn't open for a load now is it. The company also has to try and balance having to much equipment sitting around doing nothing as it has to pay insurance on that trailer, it's occupy space either at it's own yards or a client's lot and on top of this the seasonal freight swings, which once you have more then a year under your belt you will see that happens. 100 hours, sounds like someone spends to much time on the internet and not on the road getting real world experience, as "all those scrapped trailers" were scrapped because they were to dangerous, old or expensive to keep on the road as well. Some clients and insurance regs for the Mega carriers requires certain age limits trailers as well.

I drove for Knight from 06 to 09 and the serious lack of empties was a HUGE problem. Not only did it cause loads not to be picked up but the terminals were so full of OOS sold trailers you couldn't even take your break on company property due to no room to park. It was a serious problem back then. I spent many a days driving around...unpaid...trying desperately to find an empty before 1730 central time. That was when my DM went home and afterwards I had to wait until the next morning or monday as nobody in Phoenix would help. Best of luck at Knight, you're gonna need it.

Let's try to have a mature discussion without the exchange of insults, please. The alternative is to close the thread and none of us want to see that happen. Thanks.

Not much has changed on that end. I still average $500-600 weekly but get home alot. Ill be thru the house at least once a week or take time off every two weeks.

When it comes to the empty issue. This is what I do.

    I sit.

Will not move the truck until I have a name and address of the place that has empties. Then my dm is blowing up my phone telling me there's a million loads that need to be moved.

*sigh* Well guess I am not going to improve the situation because tonight I have to go out and steal empty trailers from any place I can find them, and move them my dedicated account where they are seriously needed for next week. Ill make sure I hit up Macy's for the empties. Maybe ill shuttle a few at $5 per move, back to our yard.

lol good luck, they don't release empties their. We are supposed to have a pool of 25. Currently have only 4 empty, and about 12-18 loaded. Plus they are loading out heavy this week.
