Knight

2 weeks after leaving Knight (where I spent 8 months) and I got .41-.50 and a guaranteed base salary of $800 (now $925/week)and an additional bonus based on performance. Plus, I'm home virtually every weekend.

Oh they're just as desperate as the next bottom feeder. I applied three weeks ago and they called within two hours. I wasn't pleased with the .03 CPM raise I recieved at my current employer so I used Knight to do an employment inquiry with my employer. I got the .05 CPM raise I felt was sufficient to keep my services where they are. The $20.00 spent on a cheap pre-paid phone was a sound investment. Thanks Knight....ya stupid morons.

 

Could Knight please change the customer info when they change there names. Spent an hour hunting for a customer in Seattle traffic. Finally just started trying driveways near where the adress should of been. About the fourth one the guard told me the building next door is that address but it's been years since it was called that.

Then the shipping office of the customer gave bad directions. She gave me directions to W marginal way. There overflow lot was on E marginal way. That killed almost another

hour.

 

LOL, I still haven't heard from them, I guess I will have to look at another companies. Would have been nice to have the terminal down in Phoenix

 

No worries, you live in a great place to begin and maintain a driving career with several companies.

Here we go yet again: Employees blaming the employees.
Friend, I heartily disagree with you. These drivers are not sitting around 'cause they are lazy.
In truth, they are waiting for a load. They have bills to pay too.
Enough of the insinuated driver responsibility for company policies. Obviously, we know whose side you're on. Fair enough. Just remember that we're all expendable; even yourself.
And I don't see much difference between either Swift, Werner, or Knight. The caliber of drivers are all the same. So are the driver trainers. No doubt some Swift or Werner trainers fail students and send them down the road to Knight. I know, 'cause I used to work for Knight.
And I never met any driver there that made anything remotely close to your claim of $61,000 a year. $600.00- $750.00 a week is reality. If you are able to work 52 weeks a year, that comes to about $36,000, on average. Peanuts. Seriously, why not just work for Wal Mart or McDonalds? At least you get an 8 hour shift (as opposed to the 14 hour days in trucking) and you go home every night.
Of course, when your truck breaks down (sometimes several times a month, meaning 1-3 days in the shop, each time), you can cut these figures even further. A lot further.
Given the lousy pay drivers make with these companies, it would seem that getting sent down the road on a Greyhound would be a real blessing.

Knight is really no different than any of the other junk OTR companies. They can't keep drivers as they continually advertise in magazines. Look at the turnover rate. They all pay by the mile but don't pay the actual miles you drove. They don't pay for all of your on duty time. Their benefits are expensive for what you get. You are gone for weeks at a time and just try to get home. Paid days off leave much to be desired. And don't forget the cost of living on the road. It all comes out of your pocket.

Don't worry though. This will never change. Too many drivers aim very low and settle for very little. Good luck.

 

Heading to Knight's Orientation next Tuesday. First job as a new CDL holder. Looking forward to a new life adventure!!!
