This thread is why The Bible tells us to "Boast of our weakness."

And just a friendly reminder to all -

Landstar is bad, go to Schneider.

Seriously - I am. I’d love to see the success rate improve for L/P , and see actual numbers that back it.

We almost got there with this one.

    Oxbow and UturnGirl Thank this.

What is the official TTR definition of success then? And who gets to make the ruling?

    blairandgretchen Thanks this.

Sorry - I was quoting what you wrote, directed at the OP as a valid question to be answered.

I’m not an advocate of LP, I bought an older truck outright.

    Oxbow Thanks this.

I mean Christ could come down, hand some of these miserable ######## the key to Heaven, and they'd whine that it has fingerprints on it.

What did you mean? You said you'd love to see the rate of success improve, and this almost made it, so what is the official number to make it? And who gets to make the call?

    blairandgretchen Thanks this.

No, they are not. As Blair said, all the numbers need to be revealed including maintenance cost, who gets the reserve in your maintenance fund, what your cost/mile is for tires, reefer fuel, DEF, maintenance, truck washes, electronic devices etc. etc. What your fixed expenses are, and how does that compute toward cost per mile. Then you have professional fees such as tax preparation. Then self employment tax (both sides of FICA), then income tax (sub s is pass through so personal and business income are combined in tax computations despite having separate returns).

Also, you are driving a new truck and probably haven't had to purchase tires yet. Does your maintenance fund that you pay into cover all maintenance and repair costs?

I have been away from reefer freight for a long time, but it seems to me that since you started in April that you have benefited from historically high rates. As has been mentioned before, this business is cyclical. Will you have enough buffer to ride out the low rate/low miles periods? It sounds as if you are stashing away a decent percentage, so hopefully you will be fine.

The subject of this thread is the profitability of a lease purchase arrangement, and Scooter and Blair are just trying to make sure that all the costs are revealed if you want to have a true assessment of your profitability, and thus far there are details that are missing. You don't have to prove anything to the folks on this or any other forum, but the guys on here are trying to help you by asking for all the numbers. With a new truck starting at a high revenue part of the cycle, and applying yourself 100% you should be doing well.

I think everyone here hopes for your continued success, but are trying to help you make sure that the whole picture is being scrutinized.

Good luck and continued prosperity to you!
