It's almost leveled out. It was artificially inflated during Covid. It's just returning to where it should be.

My thoughts - last 3 years has been a break over point for a lot of folks.

Closer to retirement? Older truck needing major maintenance? Was looking at a local company job anyway?

Now’s the time to exit, why just spin the wheels with no upswing in sight?

The entire owner operator business model us under serious stress.
As was alluded to in the article, a single truck operator cannot stand the downtime now generally accepted as normal, putting the exorbitant repair costs aside for a moment.

The most common location for a repossession now is in the bay of the dealer shop. The driver gets the word the repairs will cost x, but the time required will be weeks. He just tosses the keys to the shop foreman, cleans out the truck, rents a car and goes home.

Ironic. I was just talking to friends about how it seemed like I was seeing a lot fewer Landstar trucks lately.

Didn’t Bennett lose their oversize authority and they had to buy Ace Doran to be able to use Ace Doran’s oversize authority ?

That's some MAD rumor mill stuff I haven't heard before.

And - lost their oversize authority - like, in all states?

Bennett built a terminal about 15 miles from our house last year. I know one team that runs DOD for them. Need to call them anyhow and ask about that one.

I still see landstar and ranger everywhere.

I hardly see dsv, admiral merchants. And mercer.

Bennett runs big oversize loads out of my customer all the time. There is no "oversize authority" BTW. Hazmat and HouseHold Goods are the only authority riders that exist.
