Hello, I'm going to drive for MCT in Sioux Falls. (2nd time) first was 13 years ago and was short lived.

How long were you driving before you went with Landstar?

I've been reading allot from Broncrider and the Medicineman on this board, and love the knowledge that is available to me.

    Have a great day!

    Geno :)

I never worked for Landstar, however I spent a lot of time with their representatives of the Trucking Show in Louisville this year.

If I can get some family medical bills paid off sometime soon, I would love to lease on with them. Finances prevented me from getting a good used tractor to lease on with Landstar.

Here's the thing: getting to know various agents (brokers) they use is the key. They will not gaurantee any freight, but will show you where it is located. It's up to you to chose a load from what is available, basically, like an Independent runs.

Like another driver stated, it's finding what niche you ultimately prefer. The best way to start with Landstar is to haul whatever you can until you get a good feel for what freight is available and how they run.

That's right,go ahead and start to haul what ever is on their board, and by the time you will figure out how much profit you made, its to late, you will Need a good lawyer to represent you in court for your future bankruptcy, hehehheeh.LANDSTAR ITS A SCAM and that is the reality.Their independent agents don't give a dime for you, they agents are not employed by LANDSTAR so this agents don't care for you, they care about them and the huge profit they can make from you.If you die tomorrow in the truck, they will hurry to find another o/o to move the load for them, and that is the end of movie. What part of the movie, your people don't get it?Its simple as this, get paid by miles not percentage, unless you know somebody hauling for that companies personally.Make Sure you are paid empty miles and loaded miles, make sure that you are paid real miles not fake miles like LANDSTAR does.Make sure you are compensated for lumper, drop&hook, stop, detention time and scale tickets, trailer violation, trailer repair and some companies pay tolls too.If you are new to O/O,do not star a business right know, because you will need many years of independent driver to became successfully. And with this kind of downturn in this economies, your chances for survival are very slim or close to none, again, unless you have somebody to work with you very closely and that somebody its been prove to be successfully.Good luck to all of you,and don't forget..........LANDSTAR ITS A SCAM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a friend who is leased on with Landstar and he does pretty well for himself. You have to have pretty good business sense to do well there, as with any O/O, but just like being a company driver not every company is right for everyone.

I love it at Landstar. It is not for everyone. If you need someone to tell you what to do and where to go, it is not for you. If you are self motivated and understand that this is a business you can do fine here. Freight is slow everywhere right now. I don't think Landstar has any more or less freight than anyone else.

i dont see how anybody makes any money with landstar the load board never shows any thing over a 1.50 most of the time its 1.00 or under and you only get 65% of that theres no way you can make any money like that

Let me make my self a little clear.I was lease for another Co. for 15 years, and one day this Co. was shut down, customer out of business. We were about 125 driver, all but few went to LS scam Co.In a period of 1 year, most of us are gone from LS.Maybe that will explain the reality of LS scam Co. and their independent agents. Now another story:One day in Baltimore,MD waiting to fish something to get out of that bad area,I saw a bunch of load from one agent, the only agent...ARM...call for a load to get book,42.500 lbs weight, paper load and another loads, all from same agent, after numerous phone calls, grandma, grandpa, nephew, daughter, etc. a got in contact with somebody,to get book with that load, surprise, the agent ARM was in the road pooling a tank(talk with the guy personally) I was told that particular load its not 42.500lbs and its 46.200 lbs and they have to call CH.Robinson to get approval, because its not their load. The load suppose to get paid $800 but I argue about weight and while I was one line with this agent daughter(father was driving the tank)the agent from LS was offer me $1.000 per that load.Sure,i said and in the next moment, the CH.Robinson agent enter the line, and confirmed my load for $1.000.All this time,I wast aware of the other agent from CH Robinson been on line with me.$800 minus my 65% wasn't much for my truck, after fuel and tolls,NY state charges from LS and workmen comps.Perhaps something like 40 cpm after fuel, registration, ifta, truck insurance, maintenance etc. because every load has its own expensive, plus empty miles, idling time and so many other expensive, like INTERNET,cell phone ,food, and I'm not gone a make all that magic list of involved expenses. Now imagine $200 I was offer just for one load extra from another broker, can you imagine what king of scam are pulling this people?
Note: Nothing particular with this agent, but just to give some people some sense of what its going at LS SCAM CO,were their loads are coming from and were this loads are going. You might call the agent X (I'm not listing anymore agent, unless justified) for one particular load, and in the next second, that load its gone from board?????????
Or even worst, the load its not in the system, but that magic load was covered by one of their driver(maybe friend, maybe family member) and you are waiting like an idiot in the middle truck stop for days. You make the last call.Pace to all of you.

They may not have more or less freight but they have alot of cheap freight right now.How do I know this you might ask I was there for a couple of years and did good till the econ tanked and the rates fell below the floor. When I left the 1st of april it seemed that all the agents wanted 53' flats and steps for some stupid reason and all the weights seemed to go up to 45,000lbs and the rates were anywhere from .80 all inclusive to 1.14 all inclusive and that was before landstar took there cut and the d/h went up and wait time was way to much.
My break even was .89cpm so why should I go broke?

I loved working there up till the econ took a crap and prolly would go back when things get better but for now I must do other things.
