Some places truly NEED to run, come hell, snow, or high water. Grocery (to the store) and hospital critical supply outfits fit that bill. But there's lots of freight on the road that is not critical, although getting reasonable appointment reschedules are often difficult or impossible. Being 24 hours late for an appointment at a grocery or food service place will often mean an additional 24-48 hours of down time. So is avoiding that 2-4 hours of slow-going on chains really worth it?

I know threads often go off in different directions folks, but I really would rather we stay away from the *will or will not chain" discussion. This is an advice thread for those that are going to be faced with doing it.
Thanks!Lepton1, otherhalftw and Blu_Ogre Thank this. -
Don't let it bother you...the thread I started 4 years ago is still "hanging" in there, even with the standard naysayers about the ole line "it ain't safe to be on chains"....

Just another form of being prepared.
Used 2 pair of these the other day to get moving on an iced over customer lot. And out to the plowed road.
Quicker and less taxing on the body than the iron.....

Looking to install the automatic chains for next year, cause I'm lazy.DoneYourWay, Lepton1 and Frank Speak Thank this. -
lol, it doesn't bother me. I never said I love driving in the crap, but you gotta do it sometimes.
I just rather the thread stay on topic. I know I hate wading through pages of off topic material just to be able to get info on what the topic is about.Lepton1 and otherhalftw Thank this. -
I like the auto socks. Unfortunately, they're not an option where I work. We have the option of chains or cables. I keep cables on my tractor (lighter, easier and work well), but the trailers are hit and miss. Some have cables. Others have chains.

Question: If everyone waited in the chain up area, where would I chain up?
DoneYourWay, Lepton1, TequilaSunrise and 2 others Thank this. -
Our drivers are paid by the hour. They get their regular rate when they have to chain.Bakerman Thanks this.
