If you pay for your truck and are responsible for fuel, tires, and ALL maintenance then you are an O/O despite what the naysayers tell you.

A lease is just a simplified way of managing equipment costs. Why do you think that almost ALL airlines LEASE their aircraft. Swift leases nearly 100% of their company trucks.

If I "lease" a car, an airplane, a tractor trailer or my underwear it doesn't make it mine. I can't take it and do owner things with it. Can't lease a car that I pay the maintanence on and go and have it repainted. You may be the owner of a business leasing a truck which makes you the owner operator of your business. But you don't own your money maker.

Because an aircraft cost a #### ton of money? And it's cheaper to lease than buy and when it crashes your out a couple million?

I'll bite. I'm a team that runs ~200k miles a year. In 5 years when I would be done financing a truck (which I could) my truck would have 1,000,000+ miles on it. Tell me where that makes good business sense?

All so I can puff my chest out on forums and in truck stops and tell people "ur not a real O/O!!! I am!!!"?

Nah, I keep a truck until the warranties run out, Then I turn it back in.
What else then? Is it that I "can't go to another company with my truck"?
    Because that is demonstrably incorrect.
I'd be glad to show you, or any swift L/O the part of their lease that states that so long as I remove plates, registration and "any identifying marks" (mc#,etc) that I don't have to run for swift. Our leases aren't owned by swift, despite what all the haters will tell you.

Jerry Moyes owns IEL, the lease company in a roundabout way I'm sure. But on paper, I do not lease from swift, which is why I sign two contracts when I get my truck. One for the lease on the truck, and one to run under swift's authority.

Ok ... now you get to go over to the owner operator forum and tell everyone who doesn't have the paper on their truck, they're not an owner operator.

If you want to parse words, do it consistently ...

LOL friggen Swifty. They will terminate your lease the second you terminate your contract with Swift.

How do I know this? Because NO ONE WOULD BE LEASED ONTO THEM IF IT WAS POSSIBLE

I don't work for swift no more left about a month and a half ago going to actually retire this time. My 11 years with swift I have seen 6 guys still leasing the truck from iel or whatever its called i was a company driver. And they took the truck continue to pay it and left for another company so It can be done.

But I just don't understand the hostility with some of you guys. The way you talk you act like you're paying for the note on the truck. For the swift o/o or L/O or whatever you want to call them

Swift and the other megas have been sucking the blood out of the freight rates for years. People are so mad they be hatin' both the players and game.

Swift didn't care if they ran for a cheap rate or a loss; it destroyed their competition. Besides all they had to do was steal the money from the drivers to make up for it. Shorting the miles out was the number one way. This fall the class action suit is going to court, and Swift may be liable for half a billion (with a B folks) dollars that they shorted from drivers' paid miles.

Rofl....*yawn* just another walrus that knows more about my contract than me.
Even though ive read it word for word in its entirety, and have the original copy of it in my truck, and you have what....speculation? Your conjecture is worthless, and easily disprovable. I know a guy right now with an IEL lease who decided to pull for someone else. But you go ahead and keep telling yourself you know all about my lease. Keep listening to idiots in truckstops that tell you about it. I'm sure you'll go far! There are only well over 1000 L/O's here at swift, I'm sure none of us are making any money and that's why we're all doing it right???

IEL doesn't give a rat's ### where I go so long as they get their payment every week.
If you believe anything else, you're delusional or just flat out don't understand a business.

I bet I'm struggling paycheck to paycheck and on the border of bankruptcy too right driver? Tell me more about all that I don't know and regail we with your vast wisdom! Hahaha.

Meh it's been that way since the 50's and it will all ways be that way. There will always be the big guys against the small guys. Lawsuit will be interesting tho. My guess swift will lose. But in the end I careless retired and just cruising on my Harley trying to get to Montana. Should be there by late August lol.

The Swift sub forum here is so ruthless, and full of hatred.
