Sometimes it's not about making as much, more or less than a company guy ... it's about not being a company guy.

If you want to go O/O get your experience up and educate yourself about the industry and trends. You can lease directly from a dealer even if your credit isn't that great and the truck stays with you. Better yet, save and buy a used one. Build a business on a solid foundation.

This i agree with in theory. Problem is the lp programs through carriers are not set up in a way in which you are not a company guy just under a different name. You give up all the benefits of an employee and gain none of benefits of being self employed. Instead of forced Dispatch its non forced as long as you take one of these 3 crappy loads. You can't make the decision to sit a half a day for a better load, or you go to the bottom of the list. And the biggest thing, you can't take the truck to a different customer. A plumber can decide to work with a different general contractor, a lp guy is stuck with his carrier no matter how slow they get. In effect they are really just a company guy but called an independent contractor with no health insurance, no matching 401k, paid vacation, etc etc.

I was able to sit as long as I wanted. If I didnt like any of the loads offered I rejected them and kept my board position.

You are right about taking the truck elsewhere. I could take it to any other company that was under the umbrella ownership of my company, but thats not really switching companies.

I never had a problem big enough to make me want to change companies though.

I had a good company and averaged $.87cpm to me after all expenses including taxes for all miles in 2016.

Was never in a lease purchase though. Never cared about the difference. Never cared about the coveted OO title. As long as those checks are right you can call me company, OO, Lease or Sally for all I care.

I don't agree with the people who get on here and say you need years exp. to start a lease purchase . Do it young about 3 months exp. is fine. It's a lot easier over coming mistakes when your young, then to wait till your older and do something this stupid

Yes and no .... lack of trucking experience can be overcome with a solid background in business. No amount of trucking experience is going to make up for a total lack of business skills.
