If it's two lanes, you turn into the left lane. The right lane is for the cars making right hand turns. Your also would be changing lanes in an intersection. That could be a ticked. If you did not see something or someone, or they thought they could get around you. Your leaving them an out. Leaving then an out to avoid an accident with you, because they expect you to turn into the left lane just like a car.

If you change lanes in a intersection I believe you will be at fault for any accident. It's a bad habit to start doing, not caring what lane you turn into. It will come back and bit you one day.

This is what I was taught as well. Turn wide, don't crush anyone, but end up in the inside lane and then signal into the right hand lane.

I have to make a right hand onto a two lane road. No way I can use the turn lane. I stay in the right lane and put my blinker on, then wait to see how many people will ignore it. It's about 50/50. The moral is don't hit curbs or cars. No cop will ticket you for being careful.

I was taught to turn into the leftmost lane in that case then signal to safely get into the right lane. However, oftentimes there will be a concrete median there and the trailer wheels might ride up on them possibly popping a tire. So, what you do is "no cop, no stop" lol and just get around the turn safe and get through the territory. It is important to know what the book says but in practice, just get through your career without touching anyone.

Wow, you guys need to take some safety classes.

The reason you turn into the right lane and not into the left or center lane then move over is because when you make that lane change after the turn it is on your blind side and the risk of an accident is increased by 100%.

If you turn into the right lane and need to move over, then you can see much easier to avoid an accident.

Ridgeline, Here's the thing. The question was asked as the poster was going to take a driving test. He needed to know the LEGAL way to make that turn. Your opinion, or anyone else's opinion, on the "safe" way to make it is just that, an opinion.
As the state instructor explained it to me, the right lane is for drivers making a right turn onto the same street. If you are turning left into the right lane, not only are you illegally blocking the other turning driver from his lane, you are also not able to see a vehicle attempting to make said right turn.
As for the lane change increasing the risk by %100, you are saying that no one should ever, under any circumstance, make a lane change to the right? That is how I read the sentence.

Yep it is important to know the legal way and then when you are captain of your ship, at that time do what is safe.
