Rigid and flexible at the same time.
I liked some of the features of the old way, like stopping the clock, but, if you were driving a long distance, and not doing much on-duty, not driving, your main sleeping time would shift from night to day. Pti, fuel lunch and 10 hours driving, 11 1/2 hours, then an 8, your sleeper time is 4 1/2 hours earlier tomorrow than today. Somebody said on one of these threads that you don't need to start right away. Isnt that the complaint? Who can sleep for 10 hours? And then suggest that you should take 12 1/2 off in order to keep the clock right. Let's face it, if you were hauling produce from California to east coast in the late 90s, with trucks that would go the speed limit, and the speed limit, at least out west, you could make 4th morning delivery, because you had close to 15 hours each day of driving, if you drove that 4 1/2 hours that weren't part of your 10 driving, 8 hour off and your 1 1/2 hour on-duty not driving. So legitimately, 3 days later you are sleeping from 10:00 am instead of 10:00 pm. That's why finding parking wasn't hard back in the day.
My suggestion would be 14 hours on-duty/driving, 10 hours off or sleeper, with 8 hour minimum block. No driving more than 7 hours, but your break could be on-duty, such as fueling. Under my plan, if you stop because you're tired, no harm, no foul. That's just part of your 10 hour off-duty.Oxbow Thanks this. -
And when you stop for a nap. And start your 10 as you say.. And you sleep maybe an hour.. you stay parked 9 more hours??? and watch Netflix.

I would like to propose a new rule. The 24 hour rule. If you have not showered in the past 24 hours you are not safe to drive. Lol.

That's kind of unfair to those that are out and back.

I have a condition that makes it hard for me to fall asleep, normally I'm awake about 16 to 18 hours then I sleep about 6 to 8. On other days I go about 18 to 24 or more hours with maybe the same 6 to 8 hours.
After many days of this cycle my body says more sleep and then I'm liable not to wake up for 12 to 14 hours.
You cannot put HOS rules on this and say when I am safe and when I am not.
What you can do is KEEP A GOOD DRIVER FROM HAULING YOUR SH** paper or bacon.
And force many O/O to going back into older trucks or force retirement.
With the old rules-
I could sleep when I needed and legally drive when I needed.
I'm hoping to get back into the pig haul and many drivers will not put up with HOS FOR THE SAFETY OF THE PEOPLE, THE DRIVER OR THE ANIMALS THEY HAUL.
when nobody is willing to slide in pig sh** or haul milk, sh** paper for the low income forced on drivers they might take it in consideration of what best fits the drivers and not what helps line the pockets of every town they drive thu.
Some days I'm awake from 24 to 36 hours and still cannot sleep but 6 to 8 hours.
HOS IS JUST A WAY TO PROTECT EVERYBODY BUT THE DIVER IF ACCIDENTS OCCUR.Last edited: Mar 15, 2017

Any off duty or sleeper rest breaks 30 minutes or longer with a 3 hour cap should count toward the 10 hour break. Then later the driver may finish the 'split' with up to 7 hours off duty or sleeper to complete the 10. None of this nonsense, "all in the sleeper" deal. Professional drivers should be trusted to get the proper rest before driving.

Delete stupid 80 hour/7 days rule.

No, it's a total of 10 hours out of the 24 hour day. They do not need to be together, just like the 14 hour on duty doesn't not need to be together.

What I'd like to know is how any proposals would get authoritative review or worthy attention for change? Its about following rules made up by other's. scream if you wish, no one will hear it.
