I'm new to being a O/o after working for a Unionized company for 20 years. I'm a Leased on O/o now to a Carrier that so far has been honest however its my 3rd one because of the corrupted ones I encountered since the summer of 2022. My overhead expenses are hard because I bought a brand new truck however I did find a happy medium now because with all my investments (Stocks, GICs, Bond, House's, business etc.) It works. I'm only average 2200 miles per week however obtain a decent settlement after all expenses because they operate eith 98% direct customers. I've learned that a steady CPM rate supersedes a (%) rate because I can calculate a consistent pay settlement. Too much carriers that Lease on O/o's advertise great incentives on paper however, skew the numbers from super abnormal insurance rates, toll expenses, fluctuating eld rates, false charges back claim deductions from brokers based on falsified lies etc. The volatility with Carriers who pay so called 75% or 80% IMHO is a marketing ploy for lease o/o especially when they refuse to show a direct rate con for shipments from load boards or subpar customers.

I'm bad a keeping track of my numbers. I've never figured cost per mile or anything of the sort. by the time I finish my tax prep I want to scream and just go back to work. Office type work is not my thing.
If all my bills are paid and the checking account keeps growing I figure I must be doing OK. the last few years it's definitely grown with more gross every year even when I thought it would be down. I've had it too good the last few years. All short loads and never far from home, like 30 miles tops. Gravy. low miles and good $$. I get paid round trip miles and usually got a load within 5 miles of my house to end the day.
380,000 last year I believe on probably 60,000 miles. but I get horrible mileage on fuel, tires and brakes. I'm hopeful my new to me truck with less HP and strong Jake's will help with the tires and brakes. But dang I really miss my Big HP cat.

Took 1 full week off and probably worked half the Friday's, 4-5 days a week depending on the work load. If there's work I'm usually there.

This summer has sucked balls though. The mill I had hauled out of no longer runs 24 hrs so I had to go somewhere else and it's not gravy. Longer loads and less $/mile. More waiting in line. way more fuel and no loads right next to home. I've definitely been feeling the pinch. Curious to see year end gross..

You have to remember his trailers are specialized and hes running about 50% deadhead on high dollar loads, not general freight, it skews things a bit (though in fairness, on some of his loads, the oversize may cut his mpg as much as deadheading increases it)

Mostly. I kept a couple of flatbeds, a few water trucks, and some dozers and graders. Most of that stuff will run only during fire season.
