I have a 2005 Utility 3000R single temp tridem trailer with a Carrier unit, air ride and swing doors. Two spares with rims and a 60" toolbox full off stuff. Empty weight with 50gallons of fuel right around 20,000lbs. I can legally haul 45,500lbs out of WA being licensed at 90,000lbs. I lease a 2006 Great Dane multi temp(3) Thermo King spring ride and a roll up door. No spare, 50gallons of fuel and no tool box. The empty weight is about 17,500lbs. Reefer trailer weights greatly depend on how much water has been absorbed into the insulation as well. I can haul about 38,000lbs at 80,000lbs.
I used to have a Wabash. It was definitely a few hundred pounds lighter than my Utility. I don't know about Vanguard or Hyundai but from the ones I've encountered the lightest was Wabash, then Utility, then Great Dane. I'd also rank quality in the exact reverse order. Utility was just good enough and light enough for my needs.
I have a 04 wabash and just bought a 06 utility 3000R. I pull the same loads all the time. I agree with shortbuskid 100%. The wabash is by far the lightest. I still have both trailers and the utility is heavier then the wabash.
