What companies honestly care about a drivers? Not to many. If any. The higher ups are concerned with their pockets not any of ours
More THAN the savings? They wouldn't be. Jason said he paid $1.08 per gallon buying in bulk, while the truck stops charge $2.85 or so. That is $1.77 per gallon. If Swift paid us $10 for a fill up of 15 gallons or more, how would the bonus be anywhere near the savings? After paying the bonus Swift would still be ahead at least $16.55.
You're making a mountain out of a mole hill. The problem has already been remedied - get a gallon or two of DEF at every fill up (hell, every other, DEF doesn't burn that quickly). So you have to push a few extra buttons and haul that hose out of its housing... It's either that or you go to the terminal. Pick your poison. And you're not getting a bonus.... that's just outrageous to expect, or even think it's possible.
And really, with those kinds of savings I can't blame Swift too much for wanting to save that much. But, hey! Share the wealth a little! They could, very easily, and we would all be the happier for it.
Yes, I know how to 'beat the system' when it comes down to that. But I also like to play ball. When I can... when I feel like it... when it doesn't put me out too much... etc.. I could fight with the new rule and fill the DEF tank at every fuel stop, and hose Swift in the process until they simply cut off DEF at the pump all together. Or I could try to help my company out a bit by saving them a ton of money by filling my DEF tank at a terminal. I would prefer that my company scratched my back as I was scratching theirs. The point in this thread was not so much to gripe to fellow drivers as it was to let Swift know that there is a way to do this that is better for all of us. Because I have no doubt there are non-driving Swift people reading our little forum. They watch what we say, and they probably know who many of us are. That is the nature of social media.
The person you got the bulk price from also gave a pump price . Showing a savings of .72 a gal . Times 15 comes to 10.80 . But as pointed out earlier , keeping that tank full , means less breakdowns and you moving. Or just demand they pay you 40$ a hour to fuel, should only take a quarter hour?
I put in just 5 gallons every 200 hundred gallons of fuel. That's about twice a week, 10 gallons a week. Don't see a problem here.
Reading comprehension problems? "I know it costs me 1.08 a gallon if I buy it in bulk and have it at the house. I buy very little def on the road. I mean hell that is almost 1.80 or so less a gallon than a truck stop." It isn't 1.80 minus 1.08 - it is 1.08 PLUS 1.80. Learn to read correctly. It will go a long way. And if you haven't noticed, being out here on on the road - DEF is about $2.85 at the pump. Also, keeping the DEF tank topped off does nothing to reduce breakdowns. It is only when it gets too low (a few gallons shy of totally empty) that it might cause a problem. Get a clue, really!
What driver allows their DEF to get down to 1/4 or less? Just put in 5 gallons every other diesel stop it will always be either full or 3/4. If it was down to 1/4 you could still put in 5 gallons every day with fuel, making sure you only fuel about 65-85 gallons of diesel to force them to opt you for daily fuel. Don't just top off the diesel tanks if you are 1/4 DEF, get about 75 gallons today along with 5 gallons of DEF then tomorrow do the same and get 5 more DEF.
As you said when it gets too low it can cause problems especially when sloshing around and the sensor believes the tank is critical low. Aside from that I'd only want to put in 5 gallons at a time and keep it near full for purity issues. So when it gets down to 3/4 I know it is time to put in just 5 gallons next diesel stop. Once I do that I know I have introduced 5 gallons of pure fresh DEF to the system to help mix in with the older DEF. Then in a couple days it will be back to 3/4 again and 5 more fresh clean pure DEF going back in.
