this may ultimately be the most useful part of having live tracking. I will have to keep moving to keep Blair from busting my balls ! ;)

I'm one that prefers incognito .. Location is always in off mode. Track the trailer, not you, login specific.

Since getting into trucking, I've always taken the CYA approach. While, IMO, allowing customers to track you is a good idea in theory, I wouldn't do it unless I was already forced to use electronic logs. If on paper, tracking will give the authorities more evidence in the event of a serious accident.

Case in point, a co-worker of mine several years ago was involved in an accident in Ohio. A drunk ran a stop sign and went under the side of his trailer and was killed. The authorities dug deeper into the truckers logs, cell phone, etc. and noticed he had tracking enabled on his cell. After a subpoena of his records they went to work matching his records to his log book. 3 days earlier he had shorted his 10 hour break by 18 minutes. He was later found guilty and sentenced to 7 years in prison for manslaughter because he shouldn't have been there for the accident to happen.

So, if you're going to run tracking, make sure you keep EVERYTHING legal. Don't give anyone even more evidence to rake your butt across the coals.

Come to think of it, Y'all probably keep the same trailer 24/7 why track the trailer only? The company I'm with swaps trailers with other drivers. The QC doesn't always give he tractors location. Its not 100 percent. But by pinging a GPS tracking system on a trailer they know where its at and allow the customers to track it on what have assumed to be customer login only.. I've never.looked..

I understand what the goals are.. Its good idea , however, I personally have the location turned off / disabled on my phone.

I think truck drivers are perhaps the only ones I have ever heard of being said they shouldn't have been there excuse for other poor drivers. Of course I guess railroad engineers and pilots could have that said about them, but they aren't characterized as much as truck drivers.

    Danny,
I'm real curious to know if it generates additional business that you wouldn't already get.

How many shippers have asked for some type of load tracking?
