I run locally every day I am back home I was recently informed I can use a 16 hour once a week and even the 5th line to get home I dont want use 5th line paid hourly so does the 16 hour increase drive time? if my hours on drive are short not the hours on duty say like i have 3 hours driving and 6 hours on duty time left if i use the 16 hours that only increases the on duty time correct or can I use that one time just get terminal so I can get home or do I have to use the 5th line to get home? meaning no pay

Supposedly a driver can go off duty and still drive a truck. Yet if they want you to go off duty, you can bet they wont pay you.

I say stick with getting paid. Agree with them just keep on as you are already

yes I know they won't pay me once they have me in that 5th line bottom line I have no choice I have to be home every night was hoping find a way stay driving somehow little longer so I can get paid longer I have a run that last time I ran perfectly 1 hour and 20 mins to spare from OK to Lancaster as many know how often do perfect things work that's w/o any pit stops outside the 30 min reset. personally think its all bs starting with 14 hour limits in general much less on local drivers

The 16 hour emergency exception extends your 14 hour clock by 2 hours. It doesn't give you any additional hours to drive. You can drive your normal 11 hours over 16 hours once per week if some unforeseen event requires it. A long backup in the usual construction zone is not an unforeseen event. Snow on Donner pass in January isn't an unforeseen event. If you are regularly using the 16 hour rule, it's less and less likely you/company are complying with the unforeseen description.

You also must have 10 hours off duty before you come back and drive the next day, not 10 hours minus the 2 hours you burned the day before. 10 hours off duty before driving again and always in compliance with the 70 hour/8 day or 60 hour/7 day rules. And this is assuming you and your boss/company are meeting all of the other requirements that allow you/them to use the Short-Haul Exception (100 air mile rule) to Record of Duty Status (logbook) rule.

The 16 hour big day can be used once per week or after each 34 hour reset.
And it doesn't have to be for an emergency or unseen reason either. And as the others said, the 16 doesn't allow for more than 11 hours of driving it just extends the 14 hours

    tscottme Thanks this.

Another provision of the 16 hour exemption is you must have started and returned, to the same location on your 5 previous work shifts.

The16 gives you extra 2 hours . No extra drive time. Dont know about your pay, etc. Someone else gave you some examples of whats not a unforeseeable event. Who cares why you need the extra 2 hrs? Thats your business. You dont have to explain why you used the 2 hr exception.

The 16 hr rule and the Adverse Driving Conditions rule are two different things.
The 16 hr rule is for drivers that start and end in the same location every day. Basically, it allows them to extend their on duty hours to 16 once a week.
Adverse Driving Conditions allows driving driving up to two hours over due to adverse conditions such as weather, traffic etc that could not have been predicted.
