Free your mind and the rest will follow.
Not all driving jobs fit into the categories you’re familiar with. Others have already mentioned LTL. Dedicated and short haul are also good jobs that allow higher income, less uncertainty about your earnings, weekends off and home daily.
Dedicated means you drive for one customer. You have a regular run and can usually get more desirable runs as you get seniority. No waiting for a load, no 34’s in BFE and very little unpaid work.
Short haul means you operate under the short haul exemption so no ELD. In the PNW these jobs generally pay around $30/hr with overtime after 40 - you NEVER get just 40 and can often get as many hours as you can handle.tscottme and meechyaboy Thank this. -
Figure out what you like first then find the company that does that best… Me personally I’d never go back otr or regional..there are very different forms of “Local”- I consider local going home every day. You have some companies where youre home every other day and the day out you’re in a hotel. Those companies may pay by the mile still which is a pass for me..
Pick which for of trucking you’d like then find the pay structure that suits that..tscottme Thanks this. -
Don't worry about being a 'job hopper' like some might say. There's nothing wrong with wanting to better yourself by landing a better job. Just don't be a job hopper because you keep getting fired lol. And with the need for drivers, I'd say you don't even need a year experience in order to land a local gig. I didn't have any experience and was able to get hired by ups freight (now t force) a couple yrs back.
