    Their excuse letter is boiler plate bs.

    If truckers on their property want in, leave the #### doors open. People might want OUT if the building got smashed.

    And piss on their poor excuse talking about a fema shelter. Most truckers are strangers to that excuse and don't know exactly. We don't drill for that. Its too much to expect.

    We survived a night of tornadoes in the seville area, xenia Oh area with 4 truckstops back in the 90's the entire complex of truckstops kept open people came in as they felt needed and were wise to stay way from the plate windows.

    We have a fema shelter that can hold 1200 souls in town for those who don't have grissom shelters at home. But that shelter serves the school children FIRST during school hours in storms. Other than that the law opens it for the area. We know where it is. But its too much to expect 50 or so truckers staying over to know where it is and how to get there. Even if they did there isnt time to get there, they have to go into what buildings they are at without being locked out.

    Even our neighbors and our home we take in people if need be in times like that. Locking out hurts both ways before and after. Dispose of the policy. If the big F5 wedge comes through that particular building a thousand locked doors will not save anyone but actually serve to complicate those who want out and those who want in. Its BS.

    ///RANT....

    Such corporate decorated boiler plate BS. So stupid and wasteful.

    Agreed. If a tornado does hit it’s going to blow those doors out anyway! And if they’re that worried about protecting people from storm (especially in a tornado prone area)they need to build an honest to goodness TORNADO SHELTER!!

    thats too much to expect.

    In college one day a storm formed at ward and headed directly for our campus. The school staff held us in a pair of spaces designated the core alamo so even if the place got smashed we have a fighting chance in those two spaces deep in the center. They locked nothing.

    As for the town FEMA shelter at the schools, there are two wings 600+ souls each. Those doors are closed when a tornado approaches that particular block, the lawmen will open them briefly for those trapped outside. No matter what it will be ok. Damaged certainly but no locked doors. But special doors and frames set in concrete so that when closed properly they will more or less stay closed.

    Thats about all a business can be expected to provide as matter of severe weather policy. A central space large enough to hold a number. Even any building is way better than nothing outside or in a big rig cab.

    The very best shelters are those underground. But not everyone has basements.

    Locking the doors makes sense. Who is minding the store if all the Employees are sheltering in the cooler? Can’t please everyone.
    We all know that a trucker walking into a deserted store would never be tempted to grab a few few twinkies or the unattended cash register and walk off.

    Not during a tornado. Me personally I would be trying to find shelter and running for my life!! Even Walmart DCs have storm shelters in severe weather prone areas.

    About 15 were killed when Bruces had one come through their truckstop some decades ago. They were sleeping in the trucks out back. The tornado physically lifted and twisted the concrete building and set it back down a little bit.

    Ima find a hole in any building. Underground if possible. There is one with a 60's era fallout shelter that is perfect. Except that low pressure probably will empty it if possible.
